Top 5? That's really tough as I only buy the Corgis I truly like, want, or can't live without. Well here goes:

1) Acroma JU-87B Stuka: love the camo
2) PBJ - 1D Black 310: Nice model, love "blue" Navy - Marine planes
3) Legends P-40E "Ed Rector": said it before, I'm a sucker for Corsairs and P-40s, especially the Flying Tiger ones
4) 2nd Patches B-17: only one I have and will ever have
5) P-51 "Hun Hunter from Texas": I know Skunky, it's a Corgi P-51, but its no longer made and somewhat rare. To me it's special.

That's why I am increasingly avoiding buying models on ebay from Europe. The shipping is outrageous! I bought a Corgi Legends F4U recently from a UK seller. To ship it here via airmail would have cost more than the model was worth at regular price from a US distributor. I settled for regular "snail mail" surface post. Saved a few bucks, but know I've got a fairly long wait.

A single fighter should not cost over GBP 9.00. At least that's been my experience with around 20 UK purchases over the last 2 months!

But even that amount makes a big difference jj. GBP of 9.00 converts to $17.15 in US dollars. If you buy a model for GBP 4.00, the shipping is more than twice what a model is worth. Luckily my surface post shipping was GBP 4.00 also, so that wasn't too bad.

Boy, you know what? I’m probably going to catch all Billy H-E-(double toothpicks) for writing this, but Corgi just doesn’t appeal to me anymore.

Wait a minute ... wait a minute ... before you plant that Kbar in my forehead ...

Allow me to say that Corgi has set the industry standard for, gosh, I don’t know how many years. They’ve produced a plurality of gorgeous warbirds worthy of applause. And I commend anyone who collects them.

However ...

Having collected my fair share of the pooch’s products, and having grown a rather discriminating pallet over the years, I can’t, in all good conscience, purchase another Corgi model when other manufacturers are producing BETTER products.

I can think of three Diecast companies that furnish more accurate, more authentic and more appealing warbirds than Corgi: Dragon, for one. Witty, for another. And Hobby Master.

In my humble opinion, these manufacturers are producing excellent, top-drawer models that eclipse Corgi’s once-great effort. So I’ve stopped buying Corgi and started purchasing Dragon, Witty and Hobby Master.

Have I lost my mind, or is this a good move?

I agree. They seem to be having trouble getting the Catalina made. That's probably their highlight future release. And then the JU-88. Who else is going to do this one? Once more, apple to apple, Corgi is slipping. But when the model is unique what are you going to do? Pony-up for the pooches planes.

Absolutely agree. Unfortunately most of the hard to get 1/72 Corgis come up for auction in the UK - particularly the Axis planes. GBP9 is painful, but GBP25 is downright scarey

I'm with ya, Gorto....I think Corgi still identifies themselves as a toy manufacturer rather than a model manufacturer..So, from that standpoint I would have to say that Corgi makes the most authentic looking toy airplanes out there...But they're starting to look like real dogs as models.
