Re: Just got me, Corgi Predator Fleet Arm Avenger

If you want to learn more try this link: H.M.S. NABOB

Thier page on HMS Emperor is excellent too and has a photo of the Hellcat in question: H.M.S. EMPEROR

1250', thanks very much for the seriously-interesting links, especially the 1st, on HMS Nabob.

I'm ASTOUNDED to think that she lasted up till as late as 1977 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm gutted that my 'so-called' Sea-faring nation, with it's massive naval-history, has such an incredibly 'poor-showing' when it comes to preserved Warships...........

ESPECIALLY the WW.II period.

I know the 'Warspite' was damaged, but her 'Battle-Honours' make the 'Victory' look lame by comparison.

How I wish that HMS 'Warspite' above all others could have been saved - ironic she ran aground on her way to the 'scrappers'.

Our modern a/c carriers look tiny !!!!!!!!

I was going into Dover to cross the Channel a few years ago & the 'Invincible' was moored-up in the neighbouring section of port.

LOOKED TINY !!!!!!!!!!!

So, NO PRESERVED WW.II A/C Carriers for us then, only pictures (sigh)

I WILL pick-up the Avenger though, looks nice \!

I wish the paint on the cowling of the Corgi Air Fleet Arm TBM matched paint on the fuselage; they also had this problem with the Doolittle B-25.

Think you'll find it's deliberate, as per the real 'Royal-Navy' Avenger !

1250', thanks very much for the seriously-interesting links, especially the 1st, on HMS Nabob.

For those interested this what Nabob looked like as a carrier:

And after being converted into a cargo ship:

Since these ships were built on a merchant hull, the Type C3, it was not that difficult to convert her into a freighter.

I think most major sea going nations have a ship or two they wish they had saved. For the US that ship is USS Enterprise CV-6. Germany should have taken the opportunity to save the Goeben. We can't save them all but we do have some good ones. Royal Navy has Victory, Warrior, Belfast, and someday soon Caroline, the last remain ship that fought at Jutland. Warspite would have been a great addition to those to be sure! Here in the US we are blessed to have the Constitution, the only suriviving first generation dreadnought in the Texas, a bunch of fast battleships, and quite a few carriers to go along with many submarines and destroyers. And we have Queen Mary which will soon be the only intact great liner in the world.

The detail on those miniature never ceases to amaze me. Any Canadian warships yet?

Re: Just got me, Corgi Predator Fleet Arm Avenger

The FAA Avenger arrived today alongside the FAA Hellcat. Both are 'crackers' IMHO. The Avenger really shines in this livery and is a very welcome addition. Can anybody tell me where to 'theme' this particular aircraft? Some say it depicts the time when it was in action in the Med; therefore MTO section and others northern Europe. Can the panel help?
