SE5a

The SE5a is my favorite WW 1 airplane. While excited that Corgi doing this plane, I'm disappointed by the paint schemes selected so far. If they wanted to do C. A. Lewis' mount, I think his 56 Squadron A4853 would have been a better choice than that blue diamond 61 Squadron monstrosity. And where's McCudden's B4891? That's the one that had the prop spinner off of an LVG CV. As a matter of fact, where are any 56 Squadron planes?? Mumble, mumble, grump, grump.......

I suppose the Lt. F P Magoun's No. 1 Squadron A8904 looks decent enough.

Hopefully Corgi will get around to doing a 56 Squadron mount someday. Perhaps McCudden's, or Hoidge's, or Maxwell's, or Rhys Davids', or Bowman's, or Barlow's, or Mayberry's, or Burden's, or.............

Re: SE5a

I completely agree. Great subject, dubious choices of liveries to start with. I also agree with No 1 Sqdn being best so far, that's the one I'll be getting even though the pilot is not as well known as the others (to me anyway).

Re: SE5a

One I'd like to see done is Dublin born Capt McElroy's SE5 who shot down 47 enemy aircraft and was killed in action in 1918. He flew with Mannock and learnt a lot from him. Osprey's SE 5 Aces is well worth a read.

Re: SE5a

Love you to throw up some artwork or profiles of these ones you speak of fellas. I've wanted one of these since I saw this in person last summer but am not thrillled with the selection so far either.

I have Osprey's SE5/5a Aces of World War 1 and like it. If you want a good history of the SE5 development and its deployment with the 56 Squadron, see if you can find a copy of "High in the Empty Blue - The History of 56 Squadron RFC RAF 1916-1919" by Revell. This book is out of print. Used copies in very good condition are fetching $150, new $350.

Re: SE5a

Nice Pics... Parsig9

Could imagine having that gun jam, and having to stand up exposing yourself, with the wind turbolence shifting the plane all over at about 15,000 ft +, and having enemy ace coming up from behind ? Plus No Parachute.

On the topic of squadron, I would agree on NO.1 squadron. But I'm excited about corgi coming out with WW1 planes, that I'm just gonna jump on them when they are made/available. The 1st 2 SE5's showing be landing on my doorstep today. Of all the diecast, the WW1 impresses me the most, maybe due to the color schemes that the Germans had during that timeframe.

A WW1 bomber would be nice for Corgi to do as well. Maybe a 3-piece set. German Bomber, Fokker D-VII and a French Nieuport !

Regards,

Mike

Re: SE5a

Corgi...Just give me a James McCudden's SE5 so that I'll be able to display him dogfighting with Werner Voss as depicted from the History Channel "Dogfights" episode!

Re: SE5a

Mold looks nice and wires. I will wait for a later scheme blue turns me off. What is with the HUMONGOUS gun sight? C'mon Corgi are trying to make it look more toyish? Can't Corgi paint the prop hub rather than leaving it all one color? And were the radiator grills blue as well? I think it may take some detailing to get the Se5a up to speed. I still am happy they made one.
