Re: SE5a

I also had one arrive today, 37702 Capt W.A. Billy Bishop. Not a bad looking model, looks a little toyish. Corgi did a nice job with the rigging, the prop and radiator could have used some more detail though. Rear stabilizer does not have a tight fit, moves around a bit. Paint and markings good. I think the pilot is to small, looks ok in the aircraft but is smaller than the HM 1/48 JJ pilot. My first WWI bird, might get a few more so this one does not stand alone, but for a 1/48 scale hoped for some more detail. Like the aircraft of the era but I think Corgi could have done better especially when you compare it to the Swordfish.

Re: SE5a

Gambit, this model is 1/48 whereas the Sword and Glad are 1/72. The Sword has about a 2" wider wingspan from my estimates.

Here you go Gambit, a few pics of the SE5a along with the Legends Swordfish and also with the HM 1/48 JJ Spit for comparison.

Thanks for the photos, much appreciated.
I'll pick up a couple as they seem to display OK along side the swordfish.

Re: SE5a

Having gone way too long without a WW 1 airplane fix, I picked up 'Billy' Bishop's SE5a the other day. A nice model. The rigging (although better than my Biddle SPAD XIII) still needs some work to tighten it up, but never mind, its an SE5 - my favorite WW 1 airplane!

I sure hope Hornby/Corgi get their act together and ship out the rest of the WW 1 catalog. If the Mule's site is to be believed, September will be a busy month for the Big Brown Truck.
