Re: English Electric Lightning

That's a different design. How would the tanks on top of the wings affect the flight characteristics?

Don't do what BDE tells you to do. Do what BDE would want you to do.

Re: English Electric Lightning

Only place they could put tanks. They later added a ventral tank. Thing was so fast I do not believe it adversely affected performance

Actually 3 of the 4 they have listed at this price are the hardest to find & often sell on Ebay UK for around the 50 - 70 GBP mark second hand!
I have this new release on pre-order and 9 others - I just love them!!

Re: English Electric Lightning

Im very tempted by this one to.

My Dad has the Corgi 56 Sqn. 'Firebirds' 1962 EE Lighting.
It is my favourite Lighting Scheme and very difficult to find now (1st Issue).

Re: English Electric Lightning

Okay, help out a moron Yank. What is the history of this particular bird?

I've got two Lightnings so far and really like them both, though the silver one needs to stay of out the sun since the it's reflection can blind you. < lol >

XI (F) Sqn RAF, based at RAF Binbrook in the 1980's. The the two RR Avon engines being serious gas guzzlers, the overwing tanks were an attempt to give the aircraft extra range as it had always suffered terribly in that department. Eventually the "overburger" fuel tanks found their way onto service aircraft serving with 5 and 11 sqns, I'm unsure about the earlier squadrons, as many had converted to the Phantom in the late 1960's and early to mid 1970's.
