| How to change out decals on the B-24 "Michigan"? Hello, I recently bought the Corgi B-24 "Michigan" and I am thinking about changing the decals to another B-24 in the same bomber group with the name "Cocktail Hour". I was wondering how I should go about getting the old decals off and put the new ones on. I have found a review for a decal kit for "Cocktail Hour" but I can't seem to find it on any of the online stores. The decals are Superscale 72-163 for B-24 Liberators. I would appreciate any ideas! Thanks, -Max | |||||||||||||

| Re: How to change out decals on the B-24 "Michigan"? Hey there, Max Those are tampo graphics that are on your Michigan and can be removed by using acetone-based nail polish remover and a q-tip. It'll look kind of messy at first but just keep lightly wiping until the graphics have disappeared. Do not overdo it or you'll start going thru the silver paint. The q-tip should be moist but not overly-soaked..Wipe the area dry once you have the graphics removed.. Have you checked Squadron for the decals? --------------------------------------------------------- Okay, I just checked Squadron and they do carry the decals for Cocktail Hour but their site says they're temporarily out of stock. | |||||||||||||

| Re: How to change out decals on the B-24 "Michigan"? Yea be carefull, Michigan is a tricky one. I removed most markings to make my DUGAN. That cheerleader should be done in several stages as it sticks alittle tougher than I thought. I started to go through the paint on mine. I didn't mind so much as it kinda looked like a worn panel, but it sticks out when everything else is nice and purty. To even it out I did a light rub on the entire bird. | |||||||||||||

| Re: How to change out decals on the B-24 "Michigan"? Thanks for the advice! I have built tons of model airplane kit but, this is the first time that i have ever tried to alter one of my diecasts. I have heard of Decal stripper on some hobby websites, does that take the decals off without taking the silver finish with it? And another question are the decals on squadron are those just waterslide or are they something different? | |||||||||||||

| Re: How to change out decals on the B-24 "Michigan"? I used the decal painit stripper on mine. And replaced them with custom decals and Squadron water slide decals.. Just lay some future wax on the model, let dry, then apply. | |||||||||||||

| Re: How to change out decals on the B-24 "Michigan"? Again, those are tampo graphics, not decals....If you use the acetone-based nail polish remover/q-tips method you should have no problems removing the graphics without marring the underlying finish (I've done this several times with complete success). I should have also mentioned you will be using several q-tips because you'll want to keep changing to a fresh one as they load up with ink pretty quickly. Yes, the decals offered by Squadron are of the waterslide variety... | |||||||||||||

| Re: How to change out decals on the B-24 "Michigan"? You should listen to the Skunkman, he is an acetone-laden freak and an expert at that! Besides, he couldn't achieve that viagra spiked hairdo of his without it.Max, should you decide to replace the graphics on your B-24... zed550 recommended an excellent decal sheet replacement for the Michigan B-24 that you could purchase from Hannants. | |||||||||||||
