Re: Modelzone Me-109

The other model is a Hurricane, not a Spit. I went along to the local store to try and pick one up, but they hadn't unpacked them yet, so will pop along tomorrow instead. At a run of 1500 they aint gonna run out of them anytime soon.

They say the '109 is sold out. Why does the MZ web site say 30 pounds for shipping, while others are saying it's 12?

You're right it is showing out of stock...I'm getting nervous that my pre-order somehow got forgotten

Re: Modelzone Me-109

All the MZ shops are franchises, so i would say your best bet would be to contact the Croydon Branch if you want to order them. These fellas used to run their own model shop before becoming an MZ so know how to deal with these orders and look after their customers. I seriously wouldn't worry about these selling out 1500 is far too big a run to sell out in one go, especially as they still have the Kent Spit and NF Mossie in stock.

Re: Modelzone Me-109

It is considering you should get both shipped for less than 15...
Quoted from USPS:
Airmail Parcel Post:4 - 10 Days $21.10 This is for a parcel sent from the US to the UK.. Return postage shouldn't be much more..

And that is where you'd be wrong.......
UK shipping rates are generally more expensive than this side of the pond

Unless postal rates in the UK have gone up 100% in the past few months you could get a single engine Corgi sent Airmail to the US for around 6 GBP. What someone on ebay or a store charges and what the Royal Post charge are two very different creatures.

How and by what method please? Is that just wrapped in brown paper then?

Re: Modelzone Me-109

I have received several parcels from the Uk, usually single engine AA fighters, and the postage as marked on the box is often 6£-7£. I got 3 easy models shipped and the box was stamped/marked 3.40£. Where the prices go up I think is for signed for items (that I hate) b/c I have to go get them from the postal office and those are marked with a higher shipping cost. SO, they either do not know you can send from UK w/o signature or they don't want to, or who knows. I thought 12£ for 2 models shipped from MZ was fair but I doubt that is their cost. Seems 9£ is more likely. If 12£ wasn't $23 I wouldn't care so much. Damn weak dollar!

Re: Modelzone Me-109

I love the look of the MZ '109, but as long as MZ quotes 30 pounds shipping, I'm not going to take the chance. That's because, if I agree to that charge, they can apply that charge, no matter how much it actually costs them. Until they get realistic in their shipping estimates, I can't see ordering from them. 29 pounds for the model plus 30 pounds for shipping is what I COULD be charged. 59 pounds (total) at the current rates (Bloomberg) is around $110 dollars. My assumption is that MZ wants to make sure these models are available to its British customers, and is actually discouraging foreign buyers by applying a high-cost shipping "threat".

MHO...
