New Year's Resolutions For Corgi

I suppose that I'm not being realistic about this, but if I were Corgi's new management, I would make these my New Year's resolutions for 2008 and beyond:

Try to reclaim Corgi's leadership role by:

1) Broadening its offerings to appeal to worldwide not just UK tastes. Take one or two "chances" per year with 1:72nd scale planes such as the Val, S.M.79, Betty, IL-2M or MC-202. Also do more planes like the Hudson or A-20 that are of interest to U.S. as well as UK collectors.

2) Continue to dominate the large plane 1:72nd scale field with new toolings for the FW-200 Condor and the Short Sterling. If that works, consider a redo of the Short Sunderland and, perhaps, planes like the Emily or Whitley.

3) By all means, continue to complete the WW II UK line with new toolings for a Tempest V, late model Spitfire, Beaufighter, Firefly, Battle, Hampden, etc.

4) Reenter the 1:48th scale AFV field with highly salable entries such as the Matilda II, Stuart, Centurion, Cusader, etc. If results are good take a few chances with something like a Char B, Japanese Type 97, etc.

5) Stop giving the huge U.S. market short shrift. Make Corgi USA more pro-active and responsive to American collectors. Support it with better products aimed at the American market.

Sounds logical to me. What do you guys think?

I agree with this completely. I would also add 6) Meet your release dates.

Re: New Year's Resolutions For Corgi

Epapazian,
I read your list and while I agree 100% I think you're confused. Tomorrow is New Year's Day, not April Fools Day! I really don't think the people at Corgi are smart enough nor do they care enough to listen to wise, intelligent people like you. Sorry.

Doing what you want is freedom; doing what you like is happiness.

Thumbs up Re: New Year's Resolutions For Corgi

Oh I wouldn't write them off quite so fast HT . . . they're reading.

I would add to Epapazian's list:
6) Advanced Marketing Techniques. (Yes, that does mean start thinking outside the box!)

Very good points there Epapazian, I would also like 'em to continue with the 1/32 line, maybe smaller releases but with guaranteed supply to the US.

Re: New Year's Resolutions For Corgi

I resolve:

1. Not to buy a Corgi model unless it is actually released--for example, where are the December '07 releases, and a month from now, where will the January '08 releases be? Hong Kong?

2. Not to buy a Corgi Soviet model (I like the distinction between Soviet and Russian someone introduced elsewhere), which is easy to do, because they don't appear to be planning one.

3. Not to buy a Corgi Japanese WWII model, because, again, they don't appear to be planning one (why do I suffer that repeating nightmare in which I am opening a Corgi box and lifting a beautiful green Betty up into the light of day, only to have it crash unexpectedly into a low ceiling beam?).

4. Not to panic every time Corgi releases a 1/48 or 1/32 model, just because I collect only 1/72.

5. Not to start collecting Corgi tanks, because that would be a sure sign of mental deterioration, particularly because I can't afford my current addictions, let alone the addition of one more!

6. To forgive Corgi even if they send me a polished Halifax as my special award instead of the real thing...

Happy new Corgi year to all!
