Corgi Se 5a Billy Bishop

The first SE5A Corgi release did not interest me because of the very unattractive scheme IMHO. This one looks the business to me as I've just finished reading Osprey's SE5A Aces that has some excellent colour plates. Enjoy the snaps.

Re: Corgi Se 5a Billy Bishop

That Se5 looks a little better then the 1st release they did...
Still wish they paint that prop a little better to make look more like wood.
I have this one on pre-order as well.
Great pictures you took too...
Thanks for posting.

The Carousels seem to be the benchmark Parsig. The only Carousels I could get my hands on were the 'Flyboys' and having seen the DVD I would prefer some originals. These Corgis are worth having I feel especially for those with modelling skills to upgrade them.

Re: Corgi Se 5a Billy Bishop

Thanks for the pics, Shamrock. I have this on on order with the Mule, will be delighted to have it. My painting skills leave a lot to be desired, but I'll have to try to improve the prop. Also the whole front end of the aircraft, ie the grill etc, just looks incorrect ALL being blue. May have to try to research that, and possibly make some improvements. Overall though the lines etc look like an Se5a, it "looks" right.

Still wish they paint that prop a little better to make look more like wood.

I've spruced up the prop on my Matchbox SPAD and I used a light wash with some actual wood stain. For some reason it works great and leaves a "wood" like finish while toning down the gloss. The only problem is it takes a couple days to dry. Worth a try.

Cool idea! Did you use oil based stain?

Re: Corgi Se 5a Billy Bishop

Yep Captain! Minwax Wood Finish - Provincial 211. Looks pretty realistic too. If you look in the "Customizing" area of the forum I customized a New Ray Sopwith Camel and the prop was "spruced" up the same way.
