So,even an international man of mystery (like yourself) has to search for rare item like this. Definitely a "hard" one to obtain. Congratulations.

Well Gavin,
Your killing me with a rare find like that.
How many sets did they make of that item?
I only have a few rare items but not like that.
That is really nice looking set you have there.

They made two thousand pieces and I have been trying to find one for a decent price for about six months. Funny thing is that it was produced last year. I guess the Brit's bought this one in force. It's this kind of thing that gets me fired up about collecting. I love rarity!

Here is a link to it's page on Tricatus.

Gavin if the rumors are true this set had very poor sales. Corgi ended up splitting the remaining sets, re-boxing each aircraft as a standard AA release:

AA32012 Hurricane Mk.I P3169, JX-T
AA35008 Meteor F.Mk.8 WE9473/L
AA32711 Hunter FGA.9 RAF, No.1 Squadron
AA32411 Harrier GR3 XV754

Re: If you collect everything like I do....

Yes, instead of a limited edition of 2000, it ended up being closer to 800-900 of the complete sets. There were also several dealers in the UK that split sets before Corgi did just to move the merchandise, so unofficially, there may be fewer than 800 complete sets left in the original packaging. As tsr2 mentioned, Corgi split up, reboxed, and then marketed the remaining pieces (buying the set originally at SRP would have cost less than buying the four seperately ), then decerted a good number of the remainder. It was a long and convoluted trail that one.
Congrats on the purchase though. The liveries may not be that exciting, but it's still pretty nifty in my opinion. Still kind of thinking about the Hurricane...

Re: If you collect everything like I do....

I have one of these sets, and I am suprised to hear that they are so unpopular.

I think a kit that shows the evolution of a squadron through the eras is a great yardstick to the traditions and history of a unit. I think this is quite unique also, in that I don't know of other manufacturers who produce commemorative squadron sets like these but corgi.

I quite like it, the models are excellent, and it stands out from the others in it's own way.

I think I'm also going to recommend it........

Re: If you collect everything like I do....

If you recall, shortly after they were released in the UK, Martin acquired a few for special orders. I bought it as I really wanted the Meteor, but I'm very happy with the rest since I collect RAF of all eras. I display them with their others of the same type rather than as a set. I think it is a great set.

Re: If you collect everything like I do....

If Corgi said they made 2,000 of the boxed sets, doesn't that mean there were 2,000 issued
