If Corgi said they made 2,000 of the boxed sets, doesn't that mean there were 2,00 issued

Not all the time. There have been a few other items that have fallen down that same path.
When that happens you don't know for sure how many are out there.

I suspect they actually did issue 2,000 then decided to produce more for single issues. Maybe this is just another scarce Corgi rumour, like a number of the RAAF Mossies that were 'destroyed' in a "warehouse fire".

Nah they produced 2000 sets, but as said before the sales were really poor. They got dumped in the UK for about £40 (where i picked mine up ) and then those unsold were repackaged and split up and sold as 4 separate models. I reckon the estimate of about 750-800 complete sets is about right. It is a lovely set, glad i got it for a bargain price.

So, give us details! Where did you find it? That is a really sweet set!

I have a most wanted list of discontinued items that I gave Mark at OMI. He keeps an eye out the items and notifies me when he finds them. This one came from a buyout of a hobbyshop's diecast inventory.

When did this set come out? For some reason I remember seeing it somewhere but I couldn't find one for sale...
