Thumbs up "Friday the 13th" -- Then what?

(This thread will of particular interest to Halifax buffs, although, anyone is welcome to become one!)

Well, we know that "Friday the 13th" will be the last of Corgi's new Halifax announcements for 2008 -- but then what? They most certainly won't stop there. Maybe it is time to start giving them some ideas as to which one(s) to do next? From where I sit, I would LOVE to have another Mk II so my FIRST CHOICE would be "Ruhr Valley Express" from the Canadian 405 Sqn. What is particularly unusual is to have such extensive 'nose art' on a Mk II. Usually, that was found on later Mk IIIs.

Have a look at the photos from the Jon Lake book I just bought (Osprey #14 "Halifax Squadrons of WW 2") and then, as is usual practice here on the forum . . . let's hear which one(s) YOU would like Corgi to do up in their next run for 2009(?)

Don't forget "Oscar" or "Vicky the Vicious Virgin" and about a dozen others ..... all RCAF.

"Ruhr Valley Express" and "Vicky" are excellent choices. I'd also like to see them do the special duties A MK VII Halifax at the RCAF Museum in Trenton, NA337.

Easy, A Coastal Command Mk2, 2-1a Or Biii. In The White/gray/green Scheme, 58 Squadron Or 502 Sqdn. 58 Sqdn Retained The Mid-upper Turret As It Operated In The Inner Parts Of Biscay Bay, Thus Liable To Intercption By The Luftwaffe. 502 Sqdn Operated Further Out Into The Atlantic, So The Turret Was Removed And Supplementary Fuel Tanks Installed In The Bomb Bays.

Corgi Could Do The Mk2-1a Just By Putting The Wings And Merlin Engines On The Biii Fuselage (including The Low Profile Mid-upper) Version. There Could Be Two Alternatives Of This; Either With The Triangular Fins Or The B111's Fins. 77, 78 & 158 Sqdns All Operated The 2-1a In Both Configurations. The Rectangular Fins Were Introduced After Many 2-1as Were In Service; New Late Production A/c Had Them Installed On The Line And Those In Service Were Retrofitted.

Oh, I'm not, and you are correct -- there are quite a few RCAF ones -- and many of them had quite elaborate nose art (surviving art can be seen HERE -- and from the 408 Sqn HERE). I'm just highlighting MY fave that I'd like to see done up and in my collection. I trust these are yours?

Something else Corgi should keep in mind -- anything they put out that is labeled "Canadian" is gone very quickly. Ever try to find that RCAF Wellington? (Perry's excepted).

And to quote Shawn507 from a different thread: "Pics boys, we want to see those sexy birds in all their color."

I'm going to go out on a limb here and just say that I think a model will (or usually will) be chosen for a bit more than some dramatic nose art. No doubt -- you guys have pointed out there is NO shortage of it -- especially by the Canadians for this bomber. Some of us love it, others couldn't care less. But more importantly, is a dramatic 'story' to tie it all together. In the case of "Ruhr Valley Express", one of the big attributes is it was from the 405 Sqn, the FIRST Canadian Bomber Squadron. the FIRST Canadian Bomber Squadron to bomb Berlin, and the FIRST Bomber Squadron to bomb Berlin (using Wellingtons) -- and I'm just scratching the surface. I'm sure many of you guys know more about this 405 squadron than I do.

For me, the story is always the big event! But that is JUST me.

I think that would make an EXCELLENT radial engine version choice!!

The Coastal Command version is a must.

The Ruhr Valley Express would be a great choice for a Canadian Halifax. I'd also like to see a RAAF Halifax (462 or 466 Squadron), and one decorated in the colors of No. 301 Polish Bomber Squadron.
