Re: Lowest Certificate Number you got

Just got the FOV Wittman Tiger I and was pleasantly surprised that it was #0030 of however many they produced!

Re: Lowest Certificate Number you got

As I understand it, the numbers on the certificates do not correspond with the order of the production of the individual model. I believe there's just some flunky randomly flipping these cards in to boxes. If you have a certificate with a low number, it just means you have a certificate with a low number. If that is truly the case then why would it be of any significance?...I'm not saying it's not, since obviously it is to so many...I just want to know why...

This true for most diecasts but there are two exceptions that I can think of:

1) The FOV 1/16 Tigers, both King Tigers and Tiger I's, include a numbered full page certificate and, the models themselves, have a plate attached (discretely) with the production number and model info. within the hull.

2) GMP also has a production number on their aircraft. I can't remember if they're glued on or engraved (I'm thinking the company logo with number glued to the bottom of the fuselage.

Anyway, I'm just talking off the top of my head because I don't have the models in front of me. I'll post a photo later.

You just had to burst everyones bubble. Have to agree with you as far as wondering about the significance of it though.

Overall I agree Skunky that it is a bit silly, but to me it's just an extra element that adds to the collecting fun -- that said, unless you've the first or last card off the line, what does it really matter, I know. And the methods trex points out are much preferable to me, but few companies do it. Here's a link to a pic showing GMP's numbering:

All collectibles from Boyds Bears to Franklin Mint Plates are numbered to add that extra cachet to the hobby. Some collectibles even have numbered editions so you can tell if an item is first run, second run etc. You could have # 1, 1st edition, #1, 3rd edition etc.
The idea there being that first runs gain that extra desirability hence increase in value.

Does not seem to work for diecast aircraft but it is nice to know how many of an item were produced.

Re: Lowest Certificate Number you got

We are all chiming in with our numbers but I know to the majority of us that means very little next to the actual plane itself, low certs are just an extra bonus.
