Re: What are YOUR PERFECT model(s)?

What is perfect? The markings are spot-on. All the details provided (canopies, under carriage, flaps, armament, wing and or fuselage shapes) match your photo reference. You look at it and say with confidance: "That is a great looking 'whateveritis'"

In order:

1. Bf 109E (Trop) CHC Anniversary version.
2. P-38J Richard Bong
3. Typhoon Mk. 1B MR*X No. 245 Sqd.
4. P-47D Miss Plainfield

I don't pay much attention to "authenticity", but instead look for quality and execution.

Re: What are YOUR PERFECT model(s)?

OK I ADMIT I AM NOT TELLING THE TRUTH, Its the P40s that I DROOL over.
CORGI, MANY THANKS FOR ALL THOSE NEARLY PERFECT P40s I JUST CAN'T TAKE MY EYES OFF THEM.

Thanks for joining me at the Farm, Jim! I have all but one of the P-40's...so as a class, I'd put them right up there with the (old mold) Bf 109 and the P-38. However, I won't modify my list because the Doc is a 190 fan, and if he finds out about my P-40 addiction he might hit me with more joy juice...

I agree.. I love accuracy, but I prefer to have something "I like".. If you ask some people, I have accepted some "dodgy" or "questionable" pieces, but its just because I like them, accuracy issues or not..

My favs also include Carousel and Marushin, but that wasn't the question...

Re: What are YOUR PERFECT model(s)?

I would have to say:
PBY Snafu Snatchers
Swordfish
Faith Hope and Charity set
P-38 "marge"
S for Sugar Lanc
Strawberry Bitch B-24
Memphis Belle B-17
Bats B-25
Battle scarred Spit.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Yeah, funny, I have to agree. Just because they are PERFECT doesn't necessarily make them my current faves. I too have a couple of a less-than-perfect items in the authenticity department that are my current faves. I think Celtic nails it: Quality and Execution. Yup -- that explains my attraction to them.

And . . . you are correct . . . we're looking for PERFECT models, whether or not they are your faves. Shamrock has a term I really like -- he calls them 'crackers' -- right on the money in every way!

Re: What are YOUR PERFECT model(s)?

Perfection is an extemely high standard to attain in diecast, or anything else. But if we can move down a notch to "almost perfect", I think that Corgi's Gladiator, Swordfish and Wellington rate very high in this regard, as does it's HE-111. I would normally bestow the same grade on Corgi's JU-87B and P-40, however the ommision of the pitot tube on both models is an unforgivable flaw. The JU-87 came out early on, so I can see that Corgi was still feeling its way regarding quality, and the later P-40's wing is fairly thin where the hole needs to be drilled to install the pitot tube, so that posed a bit of a problem. But Dragon, FOV and Matchbox weren't deterred by this and went ahead, anyway, while Corgi took a short cut and left this readily visible part off its models.
