How to strip paint?

I just acquired a damaged and messed up Corgi B-24 from an acquaintence at work. It seems that his young son had given it the workover. My question is how to strip it so that I can repaint it in a scheme I like. Any recommendations on paint strippers that will remove the paint but not damage the plastic or clear parts? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: How to strip paint?

Testors / Italeri makes a decal / paint remover. I wouldn't use it on the clear parts but it should work for the rest of the bird.

What did your dad do to keep the acetone from attacking the many plastic and clear parts?... or did he just remove them--the ones he could.
By the way, that is a very nice "Old Crow" P-51.

He removed most of the plastic and soaked the metal body for the Sufa and an upcoming project. For "Old Crow" I think he rubbed the acetone on the model instead of total immersion. You would probably want to do this on the plastic and around the clear windows as opposed to soaking the model. I'll ask him if the acetone had any adverse effects on the plastic, none that I can immediately think of, and whether or not it could craze or damage the clear parts. As always, you might want to try it on a spare plane before going all out.

Re: How to strip paint?

acetone free nail polish remover will get the markings off, then i would leave the old paint on the model just use wet and dry sandpaper to key the surface.using it wet would be the best way, clean then give it a light coat of primer, mask off the transparancies then apply your main colour.

Skunky can also assist with a 'de-scent-itizing' process that he's apparently perfected ...

Re: How to strip paint?

How to strip paint? Well, first you set the object to be stripped on a stage, than you start up the appropriate music, Ba-boom, ba-da boom, then..........

Yea, unfortunately, there is one not far from where I live, and I live in a nice neighborhood! It recently changed ownership, and the new owner added all kinds of garish neon signs, one showing a "lady" lying on her back...... What in heck is wrong with our city code department!
