On B-24 "Michigan"-- Why the small fuselage insignia?

I was looking at pictures of the Corgi B-24, "Michigan" and noticed the very small fuselage insignia--- can this be correct? It surely looks much smaller than standard. Did Corgi blow it here?... Or was the full-size prototype an exception to the rule regarding insignia size?

The (National) insignia's didn't always 'tally-up' in size on B.24's (fuselage)

My Local B.24 bases (Wendling.392nd / Shipdam.44th / & Nth Pickenham 491st & 492nd) often had slightly oversized Fuselage National Insignia's......... particularly during the July '43 Red-border (directive) time..... some were massive.

I've been downloading many 392nd 'birds' & their serials & fates (as I live underneath the wartime 'assembly areas' for the 44th & 392nd)

I honestly know nothing of "Michigan" & have yet to see which theatre it fought in, but do recall seeing a Silver Corgi B.24 with a small fuselage marking........ (Tricatus, here we come !!!!!!!!)

Corgi HAVE managed to pull out some strange schemes for their B.24's (overlooking the obvious, like "Witchcraft"/"Parson's-Chariot" & the much photographed "Sharon'D'" (All from OTHER 8th A.F. Bomb groups) with it's interesting history & subsequent naming (the little-Girl is now an 'Old-Lady herself !)

Maybe it is correct, this "Michigan" bird ?

If it's the one I think it is (?) it SURE does look a tad under the normal......(but SOMEONE researched it !)

You've got me curious now !!!!!!!!! lol

Re: On B-24 "Michigan"-- Why the small fuselage insignia?

I've stripped my Michigan of the small insignia, tail markings and cheerleader and I'm now in the works to turn it into AAM Duxford's "Dugan". If I had to guess, I'd say these were part of the 450 (?) lot that The Flying Mule had made up in the NMF with no markings. They had to come up with something and went with Michigan. Why when there were plenty of options I don't know. I'd like a 445th or 453rd BG B-24.

Shawn,
How did you strip off the markings? Did you strip off the silver paint as well? I am asking because I am thinking of doing the same thing as you.

I used a decal paint stripper from Testors / Italeri.

Did it just strip off the markings or did it strip the silver paint off as well?

Anyone know where you can get one of the bare metal ones still?

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

There is some paint thinning/stripping where the stars were, but that was my fault. I wasn't patient enough. Still it kinda looks like a war weary replacement panel so I'm not that upset about it.
