Re: SAR Wessex is here!

Very nice model- I saw it in person today.

While I can probably logically deduce the reason, can anyone tell me why one of the rotor blades on this helo is yellow and the others are black?

Creates a sense of motion when viewed from above so that an observer won't be looking at a static rotor disc against the background of the terrain. Works better than having all yellow blades.

Thanks. I assumed it was something like that.

Re: SAR Wessex is here!

Picked one up this morning, absolute beauty.Obviously based on the Italeri Wessex kit but has a few detail improvements over it.

Re: SAR Wessex is here!

Lovely collection of Yellow 'copters there sniperUK. Some of Corgi's helicopters are among my favorite models and the new Wessex is no exception. I just received it today and it's now pride of place on my helicopter shelf with its friends!

One reason I believe is to assist the Pilot and observer in clearance for the rota against near objects. Due to their mission nature They often get in real close to cliffs and other high objects. Very often below the cliff top.

Ooops!

Re: SAR Wessex is here!

I have the yellow SAR Wessex, in addition to a CH-47 (US Army), SH-3 (Marine One), UH-60 (US Army 101ABN), and HH-60 (US Coast Guard). All the Corgi helicopters are first-rate and I will get more. Well done Corgi!

My wish list for future Corgi helos (in order of preference): CH-53/MH53, AH-64 (I think they'll do this eventually since the UK has some in service), EH-101 Merlin, Tiger, Lynx, CH-46. There are more of course (including UH-1, but I have that in 1/48), but this would keep me happy for a while.

FVD

Agreed FVD! I like your choices especially the CH-53/MH-53. Lots of variants/models for the Super Jolly Green/Sea Stallion!

Re: SAR Wessex is here!

I just received my Wessex SAR helicopter and it's quite nice. I have just started dabbling in heckillopters and only have three. But this one, by virtue of its "Screaming Yellow Zonker" color scheme is a real eye-catcher (as are the rotor blades if you aren't careful). A very nice piece for a collection.
