Smile Finally adding a B-17 to my collection....???

Wooo hooo I am a member again.... a little inactive there for while, but I am back...

Need a new addition to my 1:72 pathfinder Lanc, Mosie, Pistol Packin Liberator, Heinkle BoB, Tuck Hurricane, and 1/32 Bader Spitfire.

What do you guys recommend, I like the Nine O Nine, primarily because of the aircrew figures, (detailed? material?) but the Mount N Ride has a great paint scheme and nose art to boot.

I am also considering the BOL B-17 but not sure of the finish....

Any recommendations are much appreciated.

I love the BOL as well as "9-0-9"! Both are must haves, I say. If you can decide, then get them both like I did!

Re: Finally adding a B-17 to my collection....???

I have both 9-0-9 and Mount-n-ride, but I think I favor 9-0-9 more because of the contrasting colors (red on OD)..

I like Nine-O-Nine for itself (especially because of the red contrast with the O.D., as Harry noted), and the crew figures are just an added plus. Bit-o-lace is also fine as an example of a bare metal finish. These two are the best, in my opinion.

Re: Finally adding a B-17 to my collection....???

Hmmmm, now BOL compared to the MNR and 909 is really a case of "apples and oranges." You've got that lovely silver finish contrasting with the OD schemes of the other two, and honestly they really compliment each other on the shelf. So I'd say, pick between MNR and 909 (personally, I think 909 is a beautiful model and its overall scheme is more interesting than MNR's, though maybe its noseart isn't as good ) and then pick up BOL, too.

At first I told myself just "one B-17" then I said "just one silver and one OD B-17"... then I said "just one silver and OD B-17" from each theater

Welcome back to the asylum!

I bought MNR just because of the noseart and I couldn't resist the offer..

Good to know I'm not alone Harry Now when's Corgi going to bring us a Sally B with noseart panel (boy have they missed the boat on some surefire sellers in this series)...

Re: Finally adding a B-17 to my collection....???

I have BOL and really enjoy the bare metal finish with the peeling green paint on the port wing showing it was a replacement. The bare metal finish is a dull silver which I think looks great, not at all shinny, and the yellow and green colors really add to the overall look of the plane.

I also have Mount-n-Ride, and enjoy the dark brown paint scheme although it is kind of plain. The nose art panel is a nice addition.

I also have Zoot Suiters which is my least favorite because the olive drab paint scheme is the most plain, but it does have the sights and sounds which I really like.

Overall, I think either BOL or Nine-O-Nine are your best bets. I am looking for a Nine-O-Nine, because I really like the nose art work showing all the bombs depicting the bombing missions and the swastikas showing the planes it shot down.

No matter what, you will enjoy whatever one you get.
