Re: Best 1:72 WWII Corgi Fighter

I think the current infatuation with the Swordfish (and to some degree, according to our poll, the Gladiator) is due to the superb detail that is in these two -- specifically at this scale... We can't ignore the fact that astounding detail made the Swordfish a winner...

I think you nailed it JPN. I have two Stringbags in my collection, and I am not at all overly infatuated with the actual aircraft. I also am not infatuated with Corgi models. Nor do I have a passion for 1:72 scale. However, I am infatuated with Corgi's Swordfish, because in a diecast world of mediocre / average / poor molds of fantastically beautiful military airframes, the Swordfish model stands apart as a beautiful model. So does the Gladiator. Now if Corgi would retire its Spitfire and Mustang molds and retool with outstanding molds, I would be the first in line to buy and my Swordfisheez and Glads would go to the back of the cabinet with the new beatiful models at the front. I ain't seein' this happenin' though--nothing else from Corgi in the past two years turns the head like the Swordfish and Glad models.
