Re: Best 1:72 WWII Corgi Fighter

You are not alone now my friend although we are in a minority I think it is their best fighter so far I have four with my favorite being the McKnight one but love em all (Bader, Desert Tank Buster, & Blue MZ Malta scheme) The spits are nice too especially the John A Kent Polish Sqn one, but I think I like the P-40s they have done a touch better as my second favorite.

Nice to know I am in good company! Say -- where is that Hurricane in your Avatar? Is it local? It sure is a sharp looking profile shot. We did have one in the CWH museum in Hamilton, until it fell victim to a vicious hangar fire. SO regrettable.

Re: Best 1:72 WWII Corgi Fighter

Cruel to see that happen to them after they have been through and survived so much just like the one that crashed earlier in the airshow in the UK but that is life. My avatar I got cruising a RCAF affiliated sight can't remember which one but as it turns out she is real and inthe flesh at the Ottawa aeronautical Museum. Smartd posted some pics and she is in one of them cool eh? Here is forum link:

Most definitely! Great shots and thanks for the link. I just must get up to that museum. Perhaps next spring/summer. (An easy sell to the wife, as I've never had to make up excuses before to visit Ottawa!)

Arrgh!!!! The swordfish again!!!!

It may be an accurate representation, but compared with the other choices it looks like a flying washing machine!

Is it a 'fighter' or more accurately a 'torpedo bomber'?

It is probably about as much a fighter as the Lysander is. Those two probably should have ended up on another list.

Can I assume that you are a Swordfish-hater as well then?

Wink Re: Best 1:72 WWII Corgi Fighter

I think the current infatuation with the Swordfish (and to some degree, according to our poll, the Gladiator) is due to the superb detail that is in these two -- specifically at this scale. The simple fact is, compared to other 'fighter' aircraft of the era, they both DO look like flying washing machines. But then, this is coming from a guy who voted for the Hawker Hurricane -- my all-time fave RAF fighter.

It's all in the eye of the beholder, isn't it. We can't ignore the fact that astounding detail made the Swordfish a winner -- just not in my collection.
