Re: Best 1:72 WWII Corgi Fighter

do any of the 19 members that voted Swordfish know the names of any Swordfish aces?

I believe that Sir James Bracewell was a 3-time Swordfish ace....before he retired and spent the rest of his years playing with his DinkyToys.

Wink Re: Best 1:72 WWII Corgi Fighter

Actually, ZS, I was kinda kidding around. I like the Corgi 51's just fine, but added that to get a rise out of the Skunkster (which I did, see post # 7)

With you Captain Eddie, I know Skunky has a thing against Corgi Mustangs. It's what got me into diecast planes so it deserved a comment. Sure now with all the new stuff coming out they do look under par but they were the first lot out there after all.

OK less of the sarcasm you two, I only slipped out to watch the Legends.

Have a look at my post on the Duxford Legends thread to read what a good time I had.
Now back on thread,

Swordfish fighter, well the Swordfish was credited with several air to air kills during WW2, dont ask me for details because I have forgotten, (it was such a long time ago).

I do remember old Walley Epsom knocking down an Arado floatplane, boy did we have a great party in the mess that night.

BTW I got my knighthood for services to Diecast having saved several companies from bankruptcy.
Also I have decorations for Valour in the face of the enemy, (ordering more diecast after being threatend with certain death if I did).

God Bless America.

Re: Best 1:72 WWII Corgi Fighter

Had to vote for the Butcher Bird, have them all except the desert schemes. White 11 is my all time favorite and sits center stage in the display case. (If Dragon didn't choose to leave some key markings off theirs I'd have them all too). I do like the Swordfish & Gladiator too.

Re: Best 1:72 WWII Corgi Fighter

I've been pondering this poll since it was posted and still am unable to pick the "best."

The Swordfish and Gladiator are EXCELLENT models - but for whatever reason - no matter how good they are, it has not been enough for me to actually spend money on one. Maybe its an "interest" thing. Just not into the British WWII Biplanes (however, my last several acquisitions have leaned heavily toward British monoplanes - no nothing against the British empire here.). I've even seen both of these on display at retail outlets - but still have not purchased.

As mentioned previously - Corgi's Stuka, while not on the list - is a fantastic model/mold.

I'm not sure I would vote for it as the "best", but the P-38 IS pretty good - IMO.

Each model on the list has something that could be picked at - i.e. I love the Corgi FW 190....but the "step" bothers me as I display "in flight" and I'm not going to file them off. (Having said that, I REALLY like Corgi's FW 190's.)

The Corsairs, Mosquitos, and P-40's are also VERY good models - 3 of my favorites.

The interesting thing about this poll is that its made me think - OVERALL I prefer Corgi's line the best (over other manufacturers - whose reasons have been discussed previously on this forum). I think Corgi's line stands out overall for quality, but with a close examination of individual molds/models - there's almost some little thing wrong with about every one.

AND I STILL DON"T KNOW WHICH MODEL TO VOTE FOR!

Re: Best 1:72 WWII Corgi Fighter

My vote goes for the Me 109. The swordfish as a fighter? It's more of an torpedeo bomber.
