I voted for the Swordfish (tho didn't know it was a fighter!), however, what I REALLY wanted to vote for was not there...the P 51!

I agree with you Captain Eddie, the P51 may not be the best P51 diecast model out there but as far as Corgi fighters go, not bad at all. My vote went for the Gladiator. Lovely model.

Re: Best 1:72 WWII Corgi Fighter

I voted for the Swordfish even though it is not a fighter. IMHO it is the best aircraft that Corgi have ever launched (pardon the pun). The complexity and detail particularly in the rigging and cockpit area are superb. The black Coastal Command is the favourite in my collection of four as the old 'Stringbag' looks sinister and deadly in this version.

Re: Best 1:72 WWII Corgi Fighter

Since I voted for a fighter, I chose their P-40. I love P-40s and IMHO Corgi makes the best one.

Re: Best 1:72 WWII Corgi Fighter

No 'aces' that I'm aware of of but another Irish VC (posthumous) awarded to Lt Cdr Esmonde for 825 Squadron's attack on Scharnhorst, Gneisenau, and Prinz Eugen in February 1942.

Actually, ZS, I was kinda kidding around. I like the Corgi 51's just fine, but added that to get a rise out of the Skunkster (which I did, see post # 7)

Re: Best 1:72 WWII Corgi Fighter

Well there is no P-38J Lightning on this poll...
Having a Swordfish on there ?? It's one of the best looking Corgi planes
to date well crafted imop...But it's not really a fighter either but more of a torpedo bomber.

Re: Best 1:72 WWII Corgi Fighter

Corgi's Swordfish is IMO there best model to date but it is not a fighter, so I cast my vote for the humble Gladiator. A superb model that represents those brave soles that flew these out dated aircraft and held the line with them in many cases until more modern aircraft could be brought to bear.

Re: Best 1:72 WWII Corgi Fighter

Here I do have a favorite... The Gladiator! It's the rigging... Could have gone for the Swordfish if rigging is the decider, but as mentioned before, the Sworfish isn't a fighter...
