Re: Best 1:72 Corgi Bomber

I really like the "unloved" Wellington, four engine ones are too big for my collection, anyways.

Re: Best 1:72 Corgi Bomber

I prefer the B-25 which is a superior casting without the huge ugly joint lines that the Fortress suffers from..
The Lancaster is also a favorite, but just because of the subject matter not the mold..

hworth is right, I'm sure, but there is just something about that B-17, just sittin' on it's wheels looking powerful and awesome!

Re: Best 1:72 Corgi Bomber

Also, I sure wish I could vote for a 1:72 Corgi B-29!

Re: Best 1:72 Corgi Bomber

I voted for the HE-111, assuming that it is detailed correctly, as only some are. This is a close one, however, and the Wellington, B-25 and the bigger birds are all well done.

Re: Best 1:72 Corgi Bomber

My vote definitely is for the B-17, but in my opinion it and the B-25 are easily a close "tie" in my book.

Re: Best 1:72 Corgi Bomber

I'm figuring that MOST of the guys who've already voted (with the B.17 as current leader) are either drunk - don't actually possess one of each for direct comparison, or are suffering from National Bias, or subject favouritism !!!!!!!!!!

Don't get me wrong - even though I'm English, I love the B.17 as subject matter, more than any other W.W.II plane - BUT

If this poll is judged/based on quality of the Corgi 1/72 product, then the Avro Lancaster is a clear winner, by a nautical-mile !

The (sad) Plastic nose on the B.17, coupled with the plastic (upper) flightdeck frame (windshield to section under Top-Turret), combined with it's potential nose joint 'clumsiness' - does not even REMOTELY compare with the mould quality of the Lancaster.

When you've owned & studied both, it's BLATENTLY evident.

(yes, the nose joints on my B.17's are fine - (381st B.G. & Coastal-Command) - just looks tacky, when compared to the Lanc' (ANY)

I've always viewed the B.24 as a 'Howler' in that respect, as sadly, Corgi had to replicate the B.24 'D' Birdcage nose variant, plus the LATER turreted 'J' & 'H' nose variants, from the same overall mould - thereby causing an NASTY nose join & a clumsy compromise (which is why I'll stick to my 1/48th Monogram & 1/72 Academy Minicraft kits !!!!!!!!)

Bit galling about the B.24, as I live right near many Wartime B.24 8th A.F. bases, from where they attacked the Germans, & I live directly-right underneath the Assembly area of the 44th B.G (Leon Johnson) before they set off over the North Sea.

Re: Best 1:72 Corgi Bomber

I concur.
In many threads previously, here, on the previous Hangar and the one overseas, the Lanc has been the majority favourite based on build quality by Corgi. The trouble these days is that many folks won't have one, because they have only done one recently and the older ones are really pricey! I have them all except Rhodesia (just sold it) and they are stellar!

No offense taken, Hornchurch. Sometimes too much Tequila, Vodka and Rum mixed in for good measure always takes a toll on my head.... hick up!....

But rest assured, I do have a 72nd Airfix Lancaster bomber (though it's a plastic assembled model) in my possesion and I consider it a very pretty looking bomber right up there with the B-17!
