Exclamation 'Corgi Number Ones' go for garage sale prices

I was looking for something else (actually to see who had a RCAF C-130 for sale -- reasonable) and I ran into a page with the recent 'Corgi Number Ones' prototypes sale at Bonhams. Whoa. If I understand what I saw correctly -- there was no real money paid for these aviation prototypes. You have to see this for yourself. Go to:

http://www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/publi...&iSaleNo=15754

. . . then where it says 'Start at Lot No' enter 59 and hit 'Search'.

Cry if you want, but you will see Lancasters & B-17s (plus more) that you have collected going for absolute peanuts. My Dambusters SnS Lanc went for zip and my fave CPA Bristol Britannia did likewise. Ouch!

Have a prowl, then let's hear your input. Did Corgi realize the money they thought they would get, or did a bunch of collectors just strike it rich? Personally, I think Corgi just wasted their time and 'blew' their primo collection to bits. Discuss . . .

This was discussed extensively on the UK forum and the general consensus was that it was an absolute disgrace ...

Wow! A Lancaster sold for 10 GBP (About $20.00 USD)! Whoever bought it, got it for a cheap song and a dance.

After what I saw today I can see why. Now I'd be curious who the 'brain-child' at Corgi (or whoever owns them now) was that came up with this hair-brain scheme?

The person in charge of the marketing for this should be fired. These could of brought some serious money if anybody knew about it.

Acutally, if I'm reading this right... that chap got three Lancs for 10 pounds Read the item descriptions on the lots that sold -- multiple models are listed as part of the "lot" not just the one shown. Egad. Someone tell me I'm wrong... please. And are these all with LE certs #1?

Re: 'Corgi Number Ones' go for garage sale prices

Reading between the lines on this one it seems as if someone in the new management wanted to get shot of this lot as quickly as possible and realy didn't care how they did it.

Ooops!

Re: 'Corgi Number Ones' go for garage sale prices

Most of the sale lots seem to have been withdrawn from the auction.
Maybe to surface another day?
Great stuff on sale.
And yes, the 10GBP bid was for 3 Lancs... AA32605; 47302; 47307

You are indeed reading this right, sir. I believe these were production prototypes -- the items we see photographed and appear on the boxes, ads, circulars, web site, etc.

Albeit a significant number were withdrawn, still a larger proportion over their whole collection went for garage sale prices -- for the most part. There was a few of the lots that went for as much as £150, though.

Dumb move on Corgi's part.
