Just received news letter on this auction too. I wish they had a larger photo of the Spitfire though.

Now why can't we have that in the normal 1/32nd scale???

Re: 1:16th scale Corgi Precision Replicas Mk IA Spitfire up for bid

I forgot to add the sales pitch from their web site. I put the price at the end for those of you who are interested. I think I'll stick with the 1/72 scale.

As flown by Squadron Leader Brain Lane DFC. Serial Number: P9386. This superlative, 1:16 scale model has been detailed based on actual research from a restored Mk IA Spitfire and has been referenced against original Supermarine drawings. Several acknowledged experts have contributed to the development of this model, in particular the team from the Shuttleworth Collection who are responsible for the maintenance of an airworthy Spitfire. Corgi is also pleased to draw upon the experience of the renowned World War Two historian, Dilip Sarkar (MBE FRHistS), who’s assistance has been invaluable in terms of historic accuracy of the plane flown by Brian Lane. Clive Denney of Vintage Fabrics, who recovers and paints Spitfire’s for a living has also added extensive expertise to this exquisite replica.
This model comes with a specially commissioned book by Dilip Sarkar, which narrates the life of Squadron Leader Brain Lane and tells the remarkable story of his involvement with the most famous aircraft ever produced. The book shows never before seen images of Brian Lane, his ground crew and fellow pilots. In addition the book has extracts from Brian Lane’s log book which gives a fascinating insight into the life of a fighter pilot. Also included are testimonies from veterans who served with one of the great fighter pilots of the Battle of Britain.
Replica Features
  • 1:16 scale replica
  • Extensively researched to ensure absolute authenticity
  • Fully detailed Merlin engine with removable covers
  • Fully detailed cockpit interior with sliding canopy and opening doors
  • Opening radio hatch
  • Poseable control surfaces & flaps
  • Retractable undercarriage
  • Created with technical support from acknowledged aviation historians and Spitfire specialists
  • Polished wooden base with alloy stand
  • Product name plate incorporated into the wooden base
  • Replica will include machined metal parts, machined sand castings, die-cast & plastic moulded parts in addition to a resin formed skin over a hand built metal skeleton.
  • Polished wooden display base with tilting alloy stand
  • Product name plate incorporated into the wooden base
  • Only 250 pieces being produced worldwide
In addition, the model comes complete with,
  • Specially commissioned Dilip Sarkar (MBE FRHistS) book, which extensively and accurately details Squadron Leader Brain Lane and his Mk IA Spitfire.
  • Framed Certificate of Authenticity, signed by Dilip Sarkar and John Milne (Brain Lane’s Air Frame Rigger. Spitfire, Serial Number: P9386) as provenance this is an authentic replica.
  • Care kit which includes cotton gloves for handling, duster and blower brush to ensure you have the right tools to preserve your exquisite model.
And best of all is the price. About $2600.00 plus shipping. You would think they would throw that in. It does come in a nice wooden crate though.
