B-17 mount and ride E or G model?

I've seen two different pics of this bird, one with a chin mount the other without. So which is it??

The real one is a G model one.

The diecast is also a "G" model.. The pre-production was a paint mockup and an "E" was used.. That is also the photo that still floats around, but if you go to Tricatus' site, he has good pics of the actual model..

I think she is a bit of a special G , as MNR has no waist gunners. Some one mentioned this on one of the diecast forum's, and gave the reason....maybe he will see this and refresh my memory.

I think it also ended up in Switzerland after only about 12 missions.

After 2nd Patches, none of the B-17s had waist guns, but I believe this was just a Corgi mishap..

MNR has the whole waist window blanked off on both sides, not just a lack of guns ......I think Corgi have got it right on MNR

I seem to remember that someone said that it was so she had a unique bomb load arrangement and delivery equipment that prevented the use of waist gunners. Something like bombs stored on a conveyor down the length of the plane. Not sure if that is true, and is the only place I have heard it.

Ooops!

Didn't early B17's have metal pannels that covered the hatches for the waist guns when not in use?

They were either metal or plexiglas..

Re: B-17 mount and ride E or G model?

They were plexiglass with metal frame work They slid into place, and when the guns were to be used slid open on tracks. The memphis Belle has them.
