PBY Catalina

I am looking to add a Catalina to my collection and the only ones I know about are the Corgi PBY's. Is Corgi the only one making these fine aircraft.

I am thinking of picking up a "Snafu Snatcher" because I like the color. Aikens has them for $70.00 plus shipping. That is about the least expensive I have found including ebay.

If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions, they would be welcome.

Thanks

Re: PBY Catalina

I have the Black Cat myself and would go with Snafu Snatcher as my next purchase. The new white canadian one looks interesting. Too bad we can't get the water dio base as a seperate item.

Re: PBY Catalina

I also have the Black Cat. After seeing Snafu Catchers in the flesh at the NMUSAF, I would be tempted to get it. However, the Black Cat is, in my opinion, easily the most striking of Corgi's excellent Catalinas.

Re: PBY Catalina

I agree with the above posts as I have the Black Cat and it is a very fine piece, but Snafu Snatchers also looks good.. The only reason I haven't picked one up is I am waiting to see if Corgi will produce a "Strawberry" Midway version..

How would/could we find out if Corgi is planning on producing a "Strawberry" version. And how long would you wait for one.

I don't know if Corgi will make one, but it is a logical choice somewhere down the road and I can wait a while.. I have always considered this a "hobby" and a hobby builds over years (I have been collecting Corgi since 2000).. So, I am in no hurry.....

Re: PBY Catalina

Well being a canadian and having grown up not far from where that plane was being flown during the war I think that will be my choice for a catalina by far

Re: PBY Catalina

The 'Black Cat' is a stunner and worth going for IMHO. The early war 209 Squadron RAF aircraft is also well worth getting. I traded off my 'Snafu Snatcher' and replaced it 'Black Cat' owing to lack of space. Go for 'Black Cat'!!

Re: PBY Catalina

Besides Corgi, the only diecast Catalina I know of is Model Power's 1:150 PBY-5A, available in two liveries. Because Corgi's 1:72 is just too big for me -- albeit a lovely model -- I went for MP's pre-war USN Catalina, and I can't complain, especially for the price.

I have both the Black Cat and Snafu and recommend them both.
