F-86E, Corgi #US35804

Last weekend, my wife happened to discover 2 Corgi Aviation Archive models at a local Tuesday Morning. First, I was suprised, since I hadn't seen any Corgi die-cast at TM in many months. When I went to check them out, they were both Col. Bud Mahurin's aircraft, the P-47 and the F-86. I thought the F-86 looked better, to compliment my Matchbox Francis Gabreski F-86, so I picked it up for $14.99. It wasn't until a few days later that I noticed Corgi, either unwittingly or intentionally, put the U.S. national insignia on the bottom of the left wing (it should be on the bottom of the right wing), and omitted the "USAF" on the bottom of the right wing (which would be wrong, also). I checked the Triactus Corgi Archive website and the photos of the same model show it with the same incorrect insignia placement/omission. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about? It made me suddenly not appreciate the model as much and wondered how Corgi could make such an oversight. They're usually pretty accurate when it comes to details. I'd like to "reconnect" with this model somehow, but I'm such an accuracy freak. Any thoughts?

Re: F-86E, Corgi #US35804

My Mahurin F-86 has the same thing - typical. Mine was also a TM purchase so I am not too upset about it. My plan was to display this plane on its gear anyway.

FYI - One of the Legends F-86's (US35803) I also picked up at TM has a similar condition on the lower wing. Stars and Bars are in correct location but there is no USAF on the opposite wing. Curiously enough, however, the other Legends F-86 (US35807) I picked up at TM on May 1st was problem free. I also have two other USAF F-86's and they are also correct.

Makes you wonder how they can get it right initially and then mess it up on subsequent releases. Perhaps this is why we are seeing them at TM...
