Question AA36703 Junkers Ju88A - 4D+GM

What are some opinions about the quality and craftmanship of this bird? I'm thinking about picking it up, but everytime I think Corgi I think of the metal toys when I was a kid.

Re: AA36703 Junkers Ju88A - 4D+GM

Welcome to the Forum, weiwencheng.

As to the quality of Corgi's Ju88, I do not know as I don't have one, but Corgi has come a long way from the past in quality. That said, everyone has their opinions. It seems to be a hit or miss affair. Some models most everyone raves about, other models some do not care for much. Just ask Skunky (again, where IS that little skamp!) about Corgi's 1:72 P-51's.

Hello,
I have the Corgi AA36701 Ju 88A MTO version and feel overall it is a fairly accurate model. Like the 20mm mount in the nose of the model you are interested in.

Re: AA36703 Junkers Ju88A - 4D+GM

So far there are many who are not entirely happy with the Corgi JU-88s released so far this year. Complaints range from over-sized machineguns to dull or inaccurate liveries, incorrect underwing bomb atachments, missing antennae, etc. All of this is covered amply in several threads on Corgi's JU-88, which you may find informative. Although I have several of Corgi's JU-88s I am waiting for the Battle of Britain version due out in the first quarter of 2008. This should be a more "typical" rendition, with many of the initial bugs ironed out.

Please remember that the Corgi JU88 is an A-4 onwards model, earlier types A1 for instance served in the BoB, the earlier models had a shorter wingspan which would equate to about 3/4 " or 20mm at 1/72 scale overall. The latest 88 with the radars is a stunner and the most accurate to date.

The JU-88A-1 also featured a single rear-firing machinegun in the main cabin, not two as in the A-4 version, but I don't see why this or the other small differences is an issue. I would still recommend the BOB JU-88 over the currently available ones, but that's really a matter of taste. Regarding the latest JU-88 release, a lot of comments on it have been posted in another thread. I find it's squiggly lines to be heavy-handed , not dense enough and probably the wrong color. In addition there seem to be other mistakes as to the bombs and radar. Some people like it as is---which is fine by me--but I consider the paint job to be something of an eye-sore and will pass on this one.

But if the get the basic shape of the plane wrong - ie wings are too big, then they will be crucified - I would not put this down in the minor error category. It will be another SNAFU like the java B17EFingG.

Ooops!
