Re: Gladiator Ready!

So...now that I have a Swordfish on the way...I think I need a Gladiator. What is the consensus on this one? Which version is the most historically significant?

Probably Faith. The last surviving aircraft from the trio and the fuselage is in a museum in Malta. (There were actually six or seven Gladiators defending Malta at the time but folk lore has it that there was only three).

Re: Gladiator Ready!

I would have to go with Flg Off Peter Wykeham-Barnes Gladiator YK-1. He achieved 3.5 confirmed victories while flying Gladiators. I will be adding this one to my collection when hopefully it comes out in January. Just wish Corgi would have done one for Marmaduke St. John "Pat" Pattle (YK-0). Pattle had 15.5 confirmed destroyed, 4 probably destroyed, and 4 damaged to his credit while flying Gladiators (Top scoring Gladiator ace.).

I have five of them and find the quality to be on par to the Swordfish. Rigging is good and there is even a ring type gunsight on the model. If possible I plan on getting all of the Gladiators that Corgi has put out.

Re: Gladiator Ready!

I wonder why much more is said about the Swordfish than the Gladiator model. I don't know much about either one but the Gladiator is a nicer looking design to me.

Probably because the Stringbag is better know than the Gloster Gladiator. Swordfish also had a longer service life as apposed to the Gladiator, which saw service only in the early stages of the war. Corgi can keep making the Gladiator though, because I will keep buying them.

Re: Gladiator Ready!

Are the Gladiator model's wings made out of plastic or metal? I'm thinking of getting either AA36201 or AA36202.

Just did a quick check (So don't take this at a 100%) and I believe the top wing is plastic with lower wing predominantly metal ( Looks like small insert section with gun mounts on lower wing is plastic too.).

Thanks CC - I think I can accept "that petroleum based material" on the models of fabric covered wings if it is required to achieve the correct thickness and ribbing detail (I can't believe I just said that!). I think C1's WWI aircraft wings are metal though.
