Tricatus Rarity Index ???

Can anyone please explain the rarity index Tricatus gives for many of the Corgi airplanes on its website. I have seen numbers such as 1.0, 2.22, 3.85

Thanks,

I admit I am pretty dense at times, but for some reason I also have had difficulty grasping this rating.

In a nutshell, the higher the index, the rarer the model. Once upon a time when I was heavy duty into Corgi, I based many of my purchases on this index.

Thing is, depending on how early the release and how popular the model, even issues with a “1.0" rarity index number can still be extremely rare.

Re: Tricatus Rarity Index ???

I think it's a great idea, but it does go on the assumption that all unlimiteds get a big production run of say 10,000, so by default they have a rarity index of 1.

I suspect that a lot of the unlimited's had a much smaller prod run than that, so until we know the real numbers we will never know.

Ooops!

Tricatus,
Don't worry about it. It's part of the fun of collecting Corgi's. While I'm sure that some of the speculators will take the concept WAY TO FAR if it's kept in the proper perspective, its fun to say, "I've got this bird that is limited to 1200 planes."

You did good, and the website your website/s is certainly a special gift. You updates are something that I look forward to every day.

Anything for a weird life.

Actually, Tricatus – your rarity index was a real help. I concentrated on the hard-to-find, “You’d better get this while you can” models and haven’t regretted a single decision.

In fact, your superlative site yanked me right into the diecast world. For which my wife, bless her heart, would personally like to thank you (just watch out for the rolling pin).

Thumbs up Re: Tricatus Rarity Index ???

I wouldn't feel bad Tri. I've used your index as the basis of very many Corgi decisions. In fact even though I now have a very diverse selection of models I still refer to your index. Sometimes I think it makes no sense because as previously stated unlimited models are often very rare too. Things is, when you start out you have no reference at all some using your system helps give some perspective. Great site! Thanks for all you've done to help build my collection.

Tricatus,

Thanks for a great site.

Your pictures make it a lot eaiser to know what aircraft someone is selling when all they list is the aircraft name or model number.

If your ever in Atlanta, I'll buy you a beer.
