Re: JU 88 AA36704 Italy??

Thanks for all the input guys. I'm 99% sure I should put this 'bird' in my Eastern Front section but because of the white theatre band I've a 1% doubt; help please!! Poland 99% Italy 1%

Hello Shamrock, you might want to snag a copy of Squadron Ju 88 in action part 1. On page 32 it indicates the Ju 88A-6/U flew from bases in France, Norway, and Italy in a maritime reconnaissance and anti-shipping role. No mention of eastern front use. Color plate from Squadron publication on JU 88.

Re: JU 88 AA36704 Italy??

Aero Detail #20 on Junkers Ju 88 also has a color plate of the same aircraft too. Picture description indicates plane out of Italy. Hope this provides the information you were looking for.

Re: JU 88 AA36704 Italy??

Thanks Cruver. All I can say is that Corgi have got it wrong in their research it appears. The brochure and catalogue state war in the East; ie Russian Front. The theatre band seems like MTO to me as does your data Curver. No mention of Poland and yet Ryzm and Wlochy sound like Polish to me. More input please to enable me to theme this 'cracking' aircraft!!

Re: JU 88 AA36704 Italy??

The squiggles look fairly pronounced on the real one as on the Corgi one..

Re: JU 88 AA36704 Italy??

My PC is a bit slow tonight Cruver and I didn't see your colour plate showing Italy. You've nailed this one for me. Thanks a million for the effort. Great snaps Harry and it shows Corgi got the aircraft right at least. I'm the owner of cracking MTO 'bird' and not an Eastern Front one!!

I am leaning towards getting this one. Anyone know a great price for one online? Thanks!

This is typical of the artists' renditions I referred to earlier in this thread. Note how subtle the wavy lines are compared to Corgi's version----and their light blue/gray color. Also there are no squiggles on the lower portion of the engine mount and no outer wing bombs. It seems that Corgi's research department let them down rather badly on this one.
