Scratching my head over Corgi Warbirds

I saw a number of the next wave of Corgi Warbirds today, including the Typhoon Mk. IB (very nice!). The Zero, however, is weathered as if it is battle-worn. The paint appears to have wear chips all over the wings and fuselage. I don't understand leaving off things like markings, swastikas and guns, as has been the case with others, and yet giving us a bird that is weathered or battle-worn. I understood detail omissions were designed to lower cost.

Haha, yeah, the detail on the zeros is is really good, as a consumer, I love to get more value.

Re: Scratching my head over Corgi Warbirds

What I can't figure out is why does a Legends Typhoon cost approx $35, when virtually the same Warbirds range aircraft with 'wheels up' costs only $20...

Corgi is using the same business concept that GM pioneered in the late 1970's. That is make essentially identical cars under four different lines. Charge the lowest for the car with the Chevy nameplate; a bit more for the Pontiac; even more for the Olds; and the most for the Buick.

The Warbirds are great value for money and are begging to be upgraded to near AA standard. In some cases the are put together better than some of the full priced AA and Legends. The Otto Smik MkIX spitfire is a good example.

Re: Scratching my head over Corgi Warbirds

I've been eyeing a number of these but have held off because I've been a mostly gear down collector. Now that my shelves are getting full I'm starting to stand mount some to get a second level of planes. So eyeing them again. Is everyone pretty happy with the ones they have bought- other than the lack of pilots?

I have the green stuka and love it.
One day I will find pilots to place inside.

Re: Scratching my head over Corgi Warbirds

Just got my first one today - the graf 190. I have to say I think it's great. and the finish quality I think on this one is better than some of the full priced AA's I've received.

I'm going to try and get a pilot for it. Not sure from where though - Any one got a spare 190 pilot??.

The canopy came off intact with very little force so that bits solved.

Has anyone tried getting any spare pilots direct from Corgi??

Also where is a good source for 1/72 Swazi transfers. I'd like to fix that element of the model too.

Ooops!

Re: Scratching my head over Corgi Warbirds

The very helpful Nona in Corgi did not have any pilots a few weeks ago despite having a look. I've 'taken on charge' 9 Warbirds in the last few weeks and am very happy with them. My brother is an excellent plastic kit maker but does not use 1/72 pilot figures. As a special favour to him and being very interested in re-cycling I offered to take them off his hands There is a demand I feel for somebody to do a mixed pack of seated WW2 and modern pilots.
