Re: Which Swordfish?

Raven,
Hey there.

Get there float plane version. It's a really neat little bird (As are all the Corgi Swordfish.) and one of the few float plane birds available. (In fact, it may currently be the only single engine plane on floats?)

I would go with that, its something different, but any of them is the answer, they are all brilliant pieces of diecast.

Re: Which Swordfish?

I decided to go with the Bismark Swordfish (for now). Historical significance trumphs floats this time. Thanks for the input!

Re: Which Swordfish?

If there's one Corgi model that merits getting em all for, this is the one. I honestly can't decide which I love more, the Malaya float, the night black Coastal Command, or the preserved 1938 Ark Royal.

I agree. That's the one I bought.

Re: Which Swordfish?

I just received my Swordfish last night and all I can say is WOW! This just became my favorite
among the top 5 lists of best moulded diecast. Everything about what the other forum members raved about is true -
it is one of the finest (if not the best) diecast representation of the famous bird that made it's name synonimous with
Battle of Taranto and sinking of the Bismarck. One thing
that I would've prefered to have on this particular Swordfish livery is that it should've came with
a radar module and rockets weaponry to truly depict it's mission as a U-Boat hunter patrolling the
frigid Arctic coast in 1944. I had to dig up one of my reference books (The Illustrated Encyclopedia
Aircraft by ORBIS Publishing Co. Circa 1982) and there she was in glorius colour photograph of the
actual livery that Corgi patterned it from...Magnificent!!! Hope we get a carrier deck dio for this bird
sometime as well.

Talk about 'presence' this Mofo IS IT! This diecast is just begging to be made in 1/48 scale,
and if any manufacturer ever sees the light, they've guaranteed themselves a huge return on
investment as there is no doubt it will sell big. Mark my words!

Re: Which Swordfish?

I bought the Bismark one because a relative of mine was there and got the planes ready for their last flight of that day, a mad scramble to get the aircraft repaired and fueled up to make the most of the last of the daylight ( and find her they did).
Buying that first one was a big mistake , as soon as I saw the quality I ordered all of them.

I am have not regretted it they are superb. Its worth buying one just to see that Corgi for the first time have made a pilot figure that looks like a pilot figure.

There you see, Corgi can if they want to.

Re: Which Swordfish?

I am not happy! I got my Bismark Swordfish in the mail from a "reputable" e-tailer and I'm positive that I got sent used goods (or at least something that's been on display for a while)!

First of all the bottom of the box was somewhat crushed - first clue.

Second, I noticed that the foam packaging was "not right" and the plane had some lint and tiny scratches/blemishes on it - second clue. I was a little confused by the lint but just wiped of the plane.

Finally, when I went to put the plane on the stand and notice that the based was CAKED WITH DUST (I took pictures for proof) - enough evidence for me.

Obviously, this plane has been sitting and collecting dust on somebody's shelf before it was sent to me. I am to say the least. The merchandise was represented as new and not as any sort of closeout or display model. If I had know that I was buying something that was not MIB, I would have though twice.

I won't name names but rest assured that I will NEVER purchase from this retailer again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just another reason I don't like buying on line - you don't know what your going to get until it shows up!

Raven,
If you have photos, did you present them to the dealer?

Re: Which Swordfish?

I quite like the floatplane one. It's different and you do have the 1938 one. I'm still after a Bismarck one though. Either way you can't go wrong. Even the legends one is cool. Heck they're all good.

After all that anticipation! Sorry to hear that Raven. I feel it with you. I've had one or questionable MIB ebay buys. You need some backup?
