Corgi WWII Legends

A couple of questions..

Do the Corgi WWII legends not come with the wheels up option?

Is it possible to take the pilots out of the cockpit?

These things make me nervous, I'm afraid of breaking something trying to find out on my own..

On a side note I received my first plane of my collection a few days ago, and now have it up on the shelf along with the book I read years ago that led to my interest in the Black Cat. You guys were right, what a nice looking piece. I might hang a Pacific theater Mustang or Corsair above it.

Thank you

The Corgi WWII Legends do not come with the wheels up option. This can be worked around if you have spare parts from another Corgi plane of the same type, but unless you are very careful, the undercarriage the Legends model originally comes with will probably be a write off.

It is not possible to take the pilots out of the cockpit without a bit of trouble, they are like the full blown Aviation Archive models in this respect. You can try a) popping the canopy and pulling the pilot out, or b) disassembling the model and taking the pilot out from the underneath. Depending on the construct of the model you're working on, the second option might not even be feasible. Pulling the canopy should be easy if you work slowly and plan it out.

If you still want to try it ask here first, as someone may have tried what you're thinking already and has some advice for you. If you go this route, start a new thread in the Customize/Repair section, so others may be able to find the subject in the future.

That is a very nice Catalina, but I still haven't seen one that I gots ta have.

Re: Corgi WWII Legends

You can't go wrong with that Black Cat. The Legends have gear fixed down.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: Corgi WWII Legends

Welcome Slammer! Nice to have ya along. That Cat is a sharp one, that's for sure. I went with SNAFU. Very nice too. It's great to have the books to go with the planes. I have done the same with the Corgi Spits and Hurris. This just the start for you? Think you should read this. http://www.themodelhangar.com/forum/...highlight=step Got any other you are thinking about or was this a first and last?

Now I have another book to get.

Question Re: Corgi WWII Legends

Good godamighty, with all the chatter we read on this site about pilots and ground crews, you'd think some enterprising company would produce them in 1:72, 1:48 and 1:32 scales. I have a Barkhorn Bf-109, 1:32, with pilot and crew and it makes a huge diffeence in how we see our models. I'd snap up pilots/crew set in the above scales in a NY minute. What say you guys? Any market out there?

Re: Corgi WWII Legends

You're absolutely right stalag, there is a market for such things. It's not really the topic of this thread though.

I agree. But where should we put topics such as the one I introduced? New issues, I guess.

Yes, it is a good read. Leaving at dusk, flying a thousand miles, using the moon to line up a run, idling the engines down to a murmur, then passing 100 ft over an enemy cruiser undetected... Really was quite an achievement.

The Cat was my first, and then I have bought a couple of fighters on ebay for under ten dollars. I have a couple of other hobbies that suck up my dollars so I have to pace myself...these will make easy father's day and Christmas gifts for my daughters.

My friend works for a commercial moving company, I'll have to put him on the lookout for some glass display cases.

I like the idea that these companies put a name and location to these planes, I think some day I'll make some Photoshop placards for the displays, I think reading the history on each plane would be as interesting as the paint job itself.

Agree absolutely. I have a few 1/32 ground crew/pilots from Corgi 1/32 models, some GMP 1/35s from their European diorama, and a couple Marushins in 1 /48 (WW II Japanese pilots/crews only), bu I want a lot more. And ground support equipment...
