No, you're not missing them.. For the most part, Russian and Japanese planes aren't produced because the major diecast makers don't think they will sell well enough to recoup their investment..

Re: Wondering again

Unless is was axed by Corgi there should be a spitfire with Russian markings sometime this year. But for authentic Russian fighters you have to look towards IXO.

Re: Wondering again

Yeah, IXO Jr. would be your best bet for WWII Russian combat aircraft.

Re: Wondering again

I'm curious, if Corgi or HM or Dragon produced the birds in IXO's line who here would buy them? I would without a doubt. Even after swearing off IXO's I still reconsider from time to time.

Re: Wondering again

I would . I am getting somewhat tired of having to sell off models that are already out for better examples though. It goes with the territory. I have been pleased with my Altaya/IXO Axis models so far. I think you will love The Japanese and Russian stuff they have done. The La7 and polikarpov are nicely done by that company. An IL2 is long over due by any company and is worth waiting on. I would not suggest the IXO offering just yet.

The He219 and Mosquito really let me down. Not only were parts broken off, but they just looked so much like kids toys that I gave them to a friend to make room in my cases. The He162 is pretty nice though (no real room on the frame for the painted on panel lines) and the Beafighter fits in well enough.

I'd buy them. I'm pretty ambivalent about IXO, as most collectors are, but I couldn't pass up some of their stuff (lately the He-162). I don't have many, but I consider the ones I have OK for the money, even with their faults.

What I really want is those planes in 1/48 done by HM, EA, or Carousel (or FM/Armour if you catch them on a good day), then I'd be REALLY happy!!!

Re: Wondering again

Hey there.

IXO tends to be very hit or miss. The problem is that when they miss, the miss SO BADLY that the plane is a blight on your collection.

That being said, when they hit it their planes are very nice. In general, their Japanese stuff is really good. Their Italian & French planes are also really nice. (No, you didn't ask about Italian & French planes but they fit the mould of more obscure airforces the big boys won't touch.) The Russian stuff is either nice (LA-7) or awful (Yak 9 and from what I hear the I-16 which I don't own.) so beware.

Just be careful with what you buy, and what you expect to get from IXO and you'll do fine. You are not going to get fine lines and crisp details so if you are expecting diecast art, forget it. If you want a nice plane that will sit nicely in your case alongside your other birds, than IXO fills that void well.

Anything for a weird life.

Re: Wondering again

I purchased all the Japanese IXO a/c except the zero, and a few others of theres djjeffhall is right about it being a hit or miss, but for originality there number one, and it seems once they produce a model the big manufacters follow, the Typhoon, Avenger, Dauntless , Me-110 and P-38. Take back the P-38 Matchbox was first. I think.
