Official Corgi USA statement

Here is a statement offered by Corgi USA regarding the recent comments on the USA division going out..

To all of our beloved fans and collectors, I want to put your worries at ease. I am the Director of Product Development in the Corgi US office.
We are still here and we are still strong! Our company has merged with
two other strong collectible companies. The goal for the three companies is to build upon each others strengths and grow as one cohesive company.

Any time companies merge or purchase another, there is always rumor
about how things will change. Changes are happening. Good changes. We are examining all of our product lines and determining what has been successful and what hasn't. What is profitable and what isn't. We have wonderful new talent and expertise at the executive levels that are passionate about the Corgi product and want nothing but the best to be offered. As you may already know, the price of zinc in China has soared. Our prices have increased so high that we must look at the products we are offering and determine what is best for the company and what is best for our customers in regards to price and availability etc. Strategic planning is taking place and we plan on becoming an even stronger and more focused company than we have been. We are doing our utmost best to move forward as best as possible, this includes bringing more attention and care to our website and our Collector Club. We love our members! I am sorry that we have given you a reason to worry. Please hold tight,
good things are to come!

Regards,
Tracy Pearson..

What is "the price of zinc in China?" (humorus and serious question)

Re: Official Corgi USA statement

What is "the price of zinc in China?" (humorus and serious question)

Quick google search for my own question:

Article dated today 4/16:

"Shanghai zinc for delivery in July rose 260 yuan, or 0.8 percent, to settle at 32,165 yuan a ton. Shanghai aluminum for July delivery rose 0.6 percent to settle at 19,880 yuan a ton."

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...Tio&refer=news

Or how about this one - 4/3/07:

Excess Zinc Supply could cause Price Drop in 2007

http://www.resourceinvestor.com/pebble.asp?relid=30521

Is the price of zinc in china really "soaring?" What does "soaring" really mean regarding the price of zinc? Can anyone help explain this and how the seemingly .8 percent increase would effect the % of cost increase in a 2007 Corgi single engined fighter? (obviously if it was raising .8 EVERY month that would be huge) Why doesn't this cost increase effect other diecast manufacturers in similiar percentages to Corgi's list price increases - i.e from 2006 to 2007?

Seriously, anyone want to jump in - with some knowledge - and address this "zinc price" statement? Give it some legitimacy or rip that idea apart?

anyone???????????????

Re: Official Corgi USA statement

It's good to here some official response. I have to say I've been skeptical about the rumors. I can't tell you how many times I've heard Corgi's going under, or Corgi's in trouble yet nothing bad ever seems to happen. I makes you wonder how these rumors start. Who starts them, and what's their motive?

I'm surprised to see that Zinc is more expensive than Aluminum.

Re: Official Corgi USA statement

They could melt down all the Mustangs they have in inventory for newer molds. That should help.
