Yes, I do too! They are just trying to reel you in because of the price-hikes for this year. .

Just wanted to add to my own comments, that it means you have to pre-order virtually all the time for releases 3-4 months away....

| Re: Limited Edition Overkill There's no rule that says that you have to buy them all guys. Complaining about something like the limited edition nature of these models we collect seems a bit silly. It has been standard business practice for most of the companies in the die-cast market for the past ten years at least, and lends itself at least a bit to the collectability and investment side of things. Different liveries allow for choice, and reduce the cost of the models we collect. So in coming out with this thread you're saying you're against choice, affordable prices, and collectability. Way to stand up and be counted fellas. Let freedom ring. ![]() | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Limited Edition Overkill Hey there. Yes and no. For us fanatics, who want EVERYTHING, then yes, it can be daunting. If you are concerned with value on the secondary market, then you are always going to be on a never ending quest to get all the rare models. However, I'll bet that the individual vendors never get enough of limited editions. After all, if you are Chuck Yeager admirer and you find out that some is doing his P-39 (I'm just making these up folks.) then you are going to seek out that new/different vendor. It brings the vendor new business and customers which he would have never gotten otherwise, which after all is the whole point. If only a small fraction of those folks turn into regulars (Say 10 out of 1000) then you've got ten new customers you didn't have before and never would have had. I don't know what the average customer spends, but the $100.00 ot $500.00 a year that I'm guessing is average for the casual diecast customer, it adds up nicely. Plus, almost everyone on thsi forum has posted pictures or requests for certain birds. With all sorts of folks doing indivual special editions, wait long enough and your bird will turn up. It's good for the business and fun for the folks that get them. I don't need every limited edition, but I certainly treasure the ones I have. | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Limited Edition Overkill But when Corgi recently announced the cancellation of some releases, and reductions in production numbers of others, there were complaints from many people on this site about that. We can't have it both ways! | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Limited Edition Overkill
I would guess that has more to do with the fact they (and, I in the spirit of full disclosure) may not get the ones they have been waiting to add to the collection if it were all about unlimited runs in order to make a profit. Many collectors would be perfectly happy if only 100 models were released as long as they got 1 of the 100. While I don't purchase based on future profit - generally because I gamble on the stock market and that makes even less sense than diecast, not to mention limited space - many do and if that is something that makes the hobby enjoyable for them more power to them. However, I must admit when it comes to the premium I pay for Corgi I am not overly jazzed at releases of 3000+ for what I consider "desirable" models because who wants to lose money? It certainly seems there is a limit to demand as you can always find the larger releases available for quite some time and, after the retailers are sold out, available at less than a premium on the secondary market. I guess I could have summarized my ramblings as - I love limited editions, I want a lot of liveries and I want you to pay me twice what I paid because I was the quicker clicker!

| Re: Limited Edition Overkill Personally, I love the reduction in production numbers and like the idea of producing more liveries of a certain mold in much more limited quantities, too -- makes the hobby feel more like "collecting" rather than "buying" to me. If it means I miss out on a certain bird, such as the Century Wings 202 Tomcat that I let slide by... so be it. Yeah, it's frustrating but I might get it eventually on the after-market and the hunt is a great part of the fun for a hot model for me, too. | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Limited Edition Overkill
Then I guess that keeps me out of the ranks of "collectors" since I really couldn't care less about limited editions. Personally, I don't mind if everyone else happens to have the same stuff I do. I collect for the love of airplanes/tanks, not to invest or brag that I'm the only one on the county with this or that model. In fact, if "limited edition" means higher prices, then thanks but no thanks. Makes no difference if they retain/gain value later, as I'll likely never sell them. FVD
