Re: Corgi 2008 catalog

There appears to be 38 new releases in the AA line in this catalog and only 3 are USA related. I assume Corgi is not interested in the USA market anymore. Does anyone know if they plan on doing any US specials like they have in the past?

Remember that this is the UK Catalog releases of the AAxxxxx lines, the US Catalog with the USxxxxx releases isn't out yet.

The US catalog usually has the AA and the US releases, where the UK catalog only has the AA.

That is not to say there will be any US releases, as Corgi US has been fairly unresposive as of late.

Re: Corgi 2008 catalog

... I noticed on another site that the military vehicle line appears to have been terminated. I'm still not sure whether we are watching Corgi recover or slide more toward oblivion.

What really scares me about this catalog, is that Corgi is giving us everything that we want, BOB versions, Typhoon with rockets, Friday the 13th etc.
Is this the last ditch attempt to stay in the market?
What will be let for the 2nd half?
Corgi is really trying to up the momentum and generate some excitement in thier line.

I hope this is a recovery, and not the death throws.

Re: Corgi 2008 catalog

Ach! When is Corgi gonna give us a new Spitfire mould?
Although I like the looks of the sharkmouth Bf-110. And the Shuttleworth Gladiator, and the Guy Gibson Mosquito... and on, and on...

Where are the pics in this catalog? I didn't get the link when I clicked on a earlier post for the catalog.

Friday the Thirteenth was on my hit list in another thread, never really thought it would see the light of day.
It's mainly Brit offerings but that suits me fine, they have filled some gaps.
2nd half, I would sure like to see them address the US market and fill in some gaps for us over here.
If we see this 1st half line-up, I'll be real happy. Could have done Hornell's Canso though.

Remember this is the UK catalog and the US one will be out soon with the US releases.

A Canso very similar to this one is on display and Flying, at the Hamilton Museum, so it should be popular.
Everybody has been screaming for this one, and was on a list of special commisions I was working on with the Canadian Corgi Distributor. They got cold feet due to the large expense, but it is nice to see Corgi put all that research to good use.

Yeah, so do I -- but it does look ominous too. Gawd, I hope I'm wrong. On the brighter side: Get'em while you can!!

Why would that be a final throw of the dice?? If anything it proves that the new management have been listening and are putting their house in order. If they really were on the way out they would not have announced the new molds.

Yes some this year have been ropy and P'ed me off but I think we can be positive about this. It's not too many and has something for everyone (in the UK). Lets see what the US cat has to offer.

The big test as far as I'm concerned will be how good the Halifax is. If that cuts the mustard with no obvious short cuts then I think we can say that will be a great sign. If it sucks well then all bets are off.

Ooops!

Re: Corgi 2008 catalog

Personally, this listing is the final proof that Hobbymaster has completely overshadowed Corgi. I used to always put Corgi ahead of other manufacturer's products, even if they weren't quite as detailed, beause they supported their line well and there was a strong community following. Now, Hobbymaster seems to be far more responsive to consumer input and makes a nicer product for less money. Sure, Corgi is still a good niche for British aircraft the others won't touch and the heavies, so I'm happy about Blenheims and DC-3s. As for Bf 110 and A-10, I'll stick with Hobbymaster now unless Corgi can step up their game. Kudos to Corgi for expanding the WWI line, but I have little optimism that the DR.1 will compare favorably with C1's. I noticed on another site that the military vehicle line appears to have been terminated. I'm still not sure whether we are watching Corgi recover or slide more toward oblivion.

Not sure really how you can say that. They are both different lines and appeal to different tastes, and comparing HM's to Predators I don't think is valid. Personally I don't like the 1/72 HM's (panel troughs and washes), but that just my opinion. I mean do you really need to see every inspection cover on their wing of a Skyhawk from 10ft away?? How far would that be in 1/72??

Each company will make some crackers and each some real dogs.

Ooops!

Hopefully, it is the former. I'd like for the first half releases to be a warm-up for an even better second half!
