changing propeller on a heinkel

I have a new propeller to replace a broken one on a heinkel. I'm not sure how to proceed, did anyone do this before?
I dont see any screw holes or anything.

Its the white winter heinkel

thanks

Re: changing propeller on a heinkel

Hi fileasfog,

I'm not sure either, but I just had a look on Tricatus' site and I don't see and obvious screw holes in the pics of the underside engine area. Did you have a look inside the wheel wells with the landing gear removed? There may be plastic plugs covering the screw heads. It appears the whole of the lower wing section between and including the lower engine nacelles comes away in one piece, so the wheel wells are a logical place to hide the screws. With that removed you should be able to take out and replace the propeller assembly.

If that's not it let me know, I'll have a look at my He-111 tonight.

Good luck!

Re: changing propeller on a heinkel

If it is anything like the Lancaster nacelles, then they are solid metal with a hole in the front for the prop/plug to fit into..
I made a quick sketch of how this looks..

Fileasfog,

Just checked and there is a screw in each wheel well, though I'm not certain removing them and the section they hold in place will allow you to remove the prop. There are a few seams in the engine nacelles that put the configuration in question. But, if I were attempting what you are I would start there.

You may have to pull out the bombs and racks from the bomb bay as well. If I were a betting man I would guess there's probably some screws holding that bottom wing plate in there too.

Re: changing propeller on a heinkel

I saw some pictures on the old Mule Forum where someone had the same problem with a broken prop on a liberator.

He used one of those rubber-strap wrenchs and gave the cowling a twist to break the glue and the cowling came off.

I don't know if this would work on a Heinkel

I'd reccomend using a razor blade to cut any paint at the seam so it doesn't flake and create another problem.

Let us know what you did

There are also screw holes on the insides of the Lancs gearwells, but that only removes the engine nacelle from the wing.. The B-17 pic LzyBns posted is similar in design to the Lanc... The prop is retained by a rubber/plastic grommet that is glued into place in the nacelle..

Re: changing propeller on a heinkel

Had an accident with one of my Heinkels. Tried to remove lower wing section. Thought better of it, couldn't pry the wing section off without damaging the model. The prop shaft was broken and embedded in in the nacelle. I drilled it out and now await the replacement part. Some innovation may be required to return the prop to a spinning mode. The jury is still out on that one.
