Re: US35212 Robert H. Vaught P-40E-1

Hey crew,
I'd LOVE to see some Russian P-40s (And Hurricanes for that matter.) but Corgi will never do them as a regular plane. They have said straight up, no Russian planes as they won't sell. (There were quite a few threads along this line on the old forum.)

However, someone might just be convinced to do one as a special commision. Unfortunately Martin (Flying Mule) has no more interest in taking a chance on a Russian bird than Corgi does. (Unless times have changed for him? I haven't spoken to him recently.)

I'm not sure who else would be big enough to commision a special livery? (At least at a reasonable price.) I'm sure that from the vendors point of view the special commision would be the draw to the web site and they could hope for other "residual" sales. (I'm sure that is how Martin kept his prices low on his commisions. Folks came in for the special bird and picked up a few others as well. I did. Not every customer will, but enough that you turn a healthy profit.)

Anyone have any ideas on a vendor that might be willing, or able to do that?

Wonder what Corgi bases that on - the response to their 1/144 Tu4? Well at Corgi's typical issue quantities they're probably right, but then very little product sells out anyway at those volumes. Ask Mr Mule how his commissions are doing - not to say they're not very nice or shouldn't be done, but Corgi's volume requirement just ain't realistic.

And as the old saying goes that a P-400 is just a P-40 with a Zero on it's tail.

good one mustang' - forgot about that old adage...

I do not understand Corgis reluctance to make a Russain example of a Hurricane. They have the mould. I am sure that across Europe they would sell enough to make it worthwhile.
Its just a paint job!
Also I pick up from the Hanger that there are many around the world who would also buy into this.

I am sure corgi would make money out of it, I also think that after that success they would then be confident to go on and make the P40 (can you see where I am taking this fellow P40 fans).

Well they are doing the Russian Spit this year, and the Hurri is also one based in Russia (but in RAF markings), so maybe they are testing the waters to see what they can shift.

no4mkit and Jim,
I think Corgi reasoning for thinking that Russian planes won't sell is that we are not their target audience. We are the hardcore 10% (Or whatever?) that will chase anything down. Their "real" audience is the unwashed masses. (So to speak.)

I had forgotten that Corgi is offering a Russian Spit later this year. Hopefully, if there is enough interest they will branch out. However, we might have to wait till their 30th or 40th P-40 before they take the plunge?

HHmmm, A Russain Spit. I will certainly add one to my collection. I too had forgotten that one.

Re: US35212 Robert H. Vaught P-40E-1

The Russian Spitfire is worth having Jim. I'm going to pass on the Hurricane though. It is not worth paying €45 for some Russian squadron markings on a standard day fighter scheme with roundels IMHO. If it had Soviet markings like the Spitfire it might be worth a gamble. A P-40 with red stars would be a real bonus!
