Re: US36604 Lockheed P-38J-10 Lightning "California Cutie"

My "Calif. Cutie" arrived yesterday and I am very happy with it. I like it much better than the Bong P-38 and it looks perfect among my ETO aircraft.

Re: US36604 Lockheed P-38J-10 Lightning "California Cut

You had me wondering for a minute there, Jim.

As I remember her being re-painted in this scheme, I thought I'd forward a photo I'd came across (Airliner's site/pix) of Stephen Grey's ex- 'California Cutie'.

My guess is, that's why Corgi done the scheme in the first place.

She crashed (at Duxford), on the 14th July '96.

Ironically, I was driving up to Norfolk via the M.11, TOTALLY oblivious, to what was going on, when I passed through the scene, some 20-25 mins after the crash ( & saw a Yellow Sea-King from Wattisham, circling round).

Wasn't till I arrived & my Mother greeted me with the bad news of the crash.

My mistake , well remembered Hornchurch. The odd thing was that for weeks after seeing that crash I kept having flashbacks.
Very strange, thankfully after a while the flashbacks stopped. I guess it must have been the shock of seeing it happen right in front of me. Very very sad day.

God Bless America.

Re: US36604 Lockheed P-38J-10 Lightning "California Cutie"

i love the look of the "cutie" but I must have bombs or tanks before I buy a P-38. I now have both the Olds and Bong P-38.

I have this one and also have the Droop Snoot, Eze Does it, and like them both. Still like my MB better I think and it seems I'm not alone as they are still getting a fare dollar on the bay. The silver one Mama's boy is at $56.00 with 2 days to go. There still is a demand for these little gems, even though Corgi came out with a good model.

IMHO
I don't think that the price that MB lightnings on eBay is relative to people's appreciation of their quality over Corgi's, but rather an appreciation of their lack of availability. You might take into consideration that they're now selling for approximately half of what they were before the Corgi release.

I like the MB P-38 too, but I don't think that it looks any better than Corgi's especially with those rockets. I wish that I still had my MB Lightnings to make a direct comparison. If anyone has both and is willing to take pictures, please take them and post them to a new thread.

Thanks Hornchurch. Appreciated. Reckon that seals it for me, I'll look to get it now.

I have one at my house right now, but it is a gift for a friend, so I am not going to open it, but I will take your words for it. I do have the Corgi version of "Marge". I think it is nice overall.
