Thumbs up Re: US36604 Lockheed P-38J-10 Lightning "California Cut

I like my P38s and my P51s to be predominantly silver/aluminium as regards finish ... never figured out why exactly

Interesting. For me it's the opposite although most of my P51s are silver and the only P38 I've ordered is silver. Still like green/olive drab though. P51s like that are tough to come by though.

NAH I dont agree Starman. I love the workman like look of the olive drab scheme. Thats what I call a mans colour scheme.

I think its a bit girly to polish the metal. With exception of one or two Mustangs and P47s, You wouldnt see any self respecting P40 dressed up all shiny and flashy.

Until Corgi sorts out how to do a proper bare aluminum finish, I think that the olive drab might look a bit better. I have the Marge Lightning, and while it looks OK, I think the silver finish on my Matchbox Mama's Boy looks more authentic. That said, I'm really looking forward to getting one of these California Cutie's.

Want to bet .....Pappy just showed you one
Besides they were bare metal at one time.
But being OD is not going to stop me from buying this California Cutie P-38.
I'll be getting mine in a few days.

Gentlemen, I think you missed the salient part of Jim's observation:
"self respecting P40.
