Re: 25% of the 2007 Catalog Cancelled?

I preordered the California Cutie P-38 from Martin. If it isn't being produced, then I'll know for sure shortly as it was due to be released in March. I'm not going to cancel just yet. But right now I'm leaning towards cancelling it and using the money to go towards the new Gemini Aces Spitfire and Newman 109. I am an ex-loyal Corgi customer. I'm getting tired of their games, excuses and over-priced products. I guess I'm lucky compared to most of the rest of you - 90% of what they produce doesn't really interest me.

Re: 25% of the 2007 Catalog Cancelled?

Copy of letter posted on the DAWF by Spock

The Official Corgi Statement - 230207
2007 COLLECTOR RANGE RATIONALISATION – Supporting the Trade and the Consumer

In addition we have reduced the production quantities of the remaining models to promote sell out at good prices and enhance the overall collectability of the Corgi brand.

O.K. ... I just don't get this. Corgi wants "sell out at good prices" and "collectability of the Corgi brand". Huh?

Corgi makes the planes and sets the prices. They sell the planes at the set price to dealers and distributors and hobby stores. People go to the distributors and dealers and hobby stores and buy the planes at the set prices (plus the small dealer markup). That's it.

When people sell these planes years down the road for 3 or 4 or 5 times the price that Corgi originally sold them for ... what the (at)#$^*~+-?><()% does that have to do with Corgi? They get nothing from increased prices and 'collectability' down the road! They make no additional money from them being 'collectible' down the road! GAH! Am I missing something here? Is there some background Corgi mafia syndicate secretly selling old planes to collectors years down the road? Huh?

Jeesh! It's simple : You do market research to find out what planes the collectors want and what liveries they are interested. You do your little calculations and estimates to see how may you think would sell and you make about that many planes. Bingo! Bango! Boffo! Easy-cheezy! Your'e done. If you have a few leftover after a certain time, you have a little sale. DONE! DONE! DONE!

Collectibility - Shimectibility!!! Make a good product that people want and you will sell it.

I simply cannot fathom the people that buy a model and keep it in the unopened box for 5 or 10 years or more in hopes of selling it for lots of money down the road. For heaven's sakes go out and buy some FREAKIN' STOCKS!!! Leave the planes to people who like planes and want to display them!

Oh my . . . catharsis has now set in . . . sorry! I'm done now. Apologies. Bye-eye.

Post Re: 25% of the 2007 Catalog Cancelled?

Ahhh!!!! Not these!!! I have these on pre-order, or at least it did. Some of these alleged choices seem absolutely ridiculous. I hope that our pals across the pond are playing their April fools joke on the Yanks five weeks early.
  • AA33312 Boeing B-17E - 41-2488, 19th BG, Malang, Java, February 1942

  • US34311 Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-4 Wk-Nr 0601 of 1./JG 1, Schiphol, Holland, June 1943 Now that's just freakin crazy!!!!!
  • US35212 P-40E-1 41-24872 of Capt Robert H Vaught, 9th FS/49th FG, Livingstone Field, Darwin, Australia
  • US35213 P-40E-1 41-25164 of 1Lt John D Landers, 9th FS/49th FG, Port Moresby, New Guinea,
  • US37503 MiG-29 Fulcrum C - Soviet Airforce 2nd Squadron, 115 GvIAP, Termez Uzbekistan, 1990

  • US35814 F-86E-10 51-2746, flown by Col Francis ‘Gabby’ Gabreski, commanding officer of the 51st FIW
  • US36604 P-38J-10 42-67916 "California Cutie" of 1Lt Richard Loehnert, 55th FS/20th FG, Kings Cliffe, Northamptonshire This is crazy too!!
  • US37503 MiG-29 Fulcrum C - Soviet Airforce 2nd Squadron, 115 GvIAP, Termez Uzbekistan, 1990
  • US38003 A-10A 78-0582 of the 47th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 917th Tactical Fighter Wing,
  • US38004 A-10A 78-0657 of the 354th Fighter Squadron, 355th Fighter Wing, Bagram AB, Afghanistan

I understand that I tend to buy some things that other wont, but I just don't understand some of these choices. Plus, two of them are already out? Why cancel them? I absolutely love my US32110 Messerschmidt Bf 109E-4/N, and from what I've heard, it's a pretty hot commodity.

My regular supplier sent me the "official" Corgi announcement yesterday & the choice of which models to axe from the aircraft catalouge do seem the arbitrary choice of a bean counter rather than a person that has any knowledge of this particular sector of the die cast market.

I had intended to go for the Bassingbourne B17 & Fw190A-4 from the U S catalouge, thank goodness the Galland Bf109 made it to release.

Re: 25% of the 2007 Catalog Cancelled?

Here's a riddle:

Do you know what the difference is between IXO's Lockheed P-38J Lightning - 'Haleakala' and the Corgi version?

Answer: The IXO version is sitting in my cabinet where I can literally touch it and the Corgi version still will remain a figment of somebody's imagination.

The IXO version may be a bad model, but atleast it's real. I was going to sell it on ebay and get Corgi's version of Haleakala to replace it. Glad I waited.

Sure they do! They get sales, and customer loyalty. While I may not work in the diecast business, I can tell you that sure means a lot $$$ in mine.

Re: 25% of the 2007 Catalog Cancelled?

On my web page I have updated the Corgi spreadsheets listed on the left side of the home page. If you click on either Genre or Model Number the spreadsheets will show the cancelled models in red. Models listed on the cancel list, but already distributed, are in blue.
  • Notice that 16 of the 24 US releases were cancelled.
  • All of the Eagles of the Reich would have been cancelled if it hadn't been for the (timely) release of the Galland 109.
  • All of the Gabreski's were cancelled.
  • All of the Squadron History models would have been deleted, but the Vaught was released before the cancel notice.
  • Strangely, one P-51 named Tommy's Dad survived the War in the Pacific line; all the rest were cancelled. Wonder if dad's plane just got forgotten and will be included in another official list.
  • Predators (for obvious reasons) weren't touched.

If I've missed anything or if a better delete list becomes available, please tell me. Thanks.

Re: 25% of the 2007 Catalog Cancelled?

The problem is :

Corgi is too expensive, and now, many sheriff are in town (HM, FOV, IXO, Witty and Dragon).
B25 FOV 39.99 $ B25 corgi 79,99$
HM Stuka 24.99$ Corgi stuka 34.99$
What else ?

Last year i've just buy 2 or 3 2006 corgi model's and i wait on EBAY the reduce prix.
If corgi continue this expansive politic i say BYE BYE, and i not the one.

Spec Cast made a pretty model of this livery in an odd scale. It is Miss V nose art but belongs to the same squadron that 'Haleakala' was from.

Pappy of Diecast Ace has one. Wish I could still find on on-line and will order one for my collection.

Re: 25% of the 2007 Catalog Cancelled?

I wouldn't wander too far off in the direction of this being fact. I don't know what Jumblies would have to gain from posting it if it wasn't true, but I can tell you that 80% of Corgi's stock list is sold out.

I'm just not buying it. There's too much that doesn't make any sense here.
