Re: 25% of the 2007 Catalog Cancelled?

As far as getting your news from retailer; I had a Corgi retailer tell me that Corgi was bankrupt and that there were locks on the factory doors as the reason why the Bong P-38 was not in stock last fall. If it is true it is ashame since their are several planes on the list I really want.

As you have seen, many retails don't know any more than we do about what's going on at Corgi. I was just wondering if any retailers had received official word from Corgi on which releases were being "deferred".

Re: 25% of the 2007 Catalog Cancelled?

Copy of letter posted on the DAWF by Spock
[b]The Official Corgi Statement - 230207
Further to the recent merger of Corgi Classics, Master Replicas and Cards Inc, the new Corgi International business has taken the strategic decision to rationalise the Corgi Collector range. A significant number of products featured in the 2007 catalogue have been deferred (circa 150), the models retained (circa 400) being the most desirable in terms of livery and tooling. In addition we have reduced the production quantities of the remaining models to promote sell out at good prices and enhance the overall collectability of the Corgi brand.
More details to be announced regarding the above changes in the coming weeks.

Well that is really going to mess up some of the things i would like to have

Re: 25% of the 2007 Catalog Cancelled?

If this press release is true and these planes are canceled, would it be a bad thing for the hobby and Corgi in general?

I seem to recall quite a few statements that folks are broke and that they felt Corgi was putting out too many birds.

That on top of the increased number of players has (According to the posts on this forum.) flooded the market.

I'd be sorry to see some of these birds canceled, but I'm happy to have a few less birds to long for as well.

Jumblies models in the UK have the official Corgi letter on their website detailing all the cancellations.

Generally I think if true it shows that The new management are trying to get the house in order, which is great for everyone, esp if they are starting to concentrate on maintaining brand value.

I'm not sure about the choices. I didn't see the night fighter Tiffie on that list. I would dhave though that thios would have been prime cut material.

The Vaught P-40E has also been released...

I think a cut in offerings would be a big help to both Corgi and collectors. A lot of us just can't meet the pace financially. And I say that even though I wanted several of the WWII models on the cut list. Hopefully, Corgi will be able to stay in business...

Re: 25% of the 2007 Catalog Cancelled?

It didn't surprise me that Corgi has made cuts, as this was in the works for a while now (reducing production numbers to maintain value).. I am honestly glad to see Corgi making this decision to keep their product a true collectible and keep it a brand leader in Diecast aircraft..

Re: 25% of the 2007 Catalog Cancelled?

Just compared the Jumblies list to my want list. I'm going to have a very tough time getting the 6 tokens for the free Halifax.

Still can't work out why the the Galland 109 got on the list. Maybe it's just business as usual - one hand not knowing what the others doing

US releases seem to have taken a pretty big hit. A little disproportionate compared to the rest.

Re: 25% of the 2007 Catalog Cancelled?

I agree that Corgi's smart to rationalize. What I see happening is that too many models were released in too short a time, thus causing us collectors to have to make careful choices. The result is that certain desirable liveries get let go at fire sale prices because they've overstocked, assuming that every single collector would go broke trying to obtain said product. This is why I'm assuming there was the great Tuesday morning sell off. Now with increased competition, Corgi's having to make its own careful choices. I've noticed the numbers in the later releases have been declining, as Corgi has already amortized the cost of its molds, now they can concentrate on running true limited editions. I must say props to the pooch for its latest releases as well, with the Black Cat and Swordfish being among my favorite diecast pieces. Still, the competition is coming on strong, and most of my purchasing dollars in the upcoming future will go to Hobbymaster, Gemini and Carousel 1. The only 07 Corgis which really interest me are the Galland, the new FW-190 and the WW1 Birds.

Re: 25% of the 2007 Catalog Cancelled?

I'm sure it's the best for Corgi to do this in order to stay afloat...But man i'm not even going to see Gentile's P-51B or the two A-10's they were coming out with.
Really hope they get the Halifax out soon.
Makes one wonder what will 2008 hold for the collectors.
