Re: 25% of the 2007 Catalog Cancelled?

Personally, I thought it was rather bush league to put the Gentile P-51B under the "normal" Corgi run rather than let Martin (Flying Mule) release it as the third in his Gentile series. Now it is one of the ones they are likely to cut further? I understand the run may be greater than what the Mule may have offered but still it seems like a rather lame move.

As to the others, I guess they'll save me a bit of money but I always thought it was better to plan well and make fewer adjustments than shoot for the moon right off the bat. I guess the 2007 catalog can now serve as a true wishbook that includes a number of models we'll never see.

I don't know if that's a fair assessment. You have to figure that Martin gets what Martin pays for, right?
If Corgi was handing out production runs they can toss one The Model Hangars way.

Dear Corgi,

You're NUTS for dropping the checker nose Focke Wulf 190

After 10 people said they wanted the checker nose FW 190 I stopped counting it became clear that this model was one of the most coveted birds expected in 2007. If Corgi still has their head up their collective as**s in 2008 Dragon should take a hint from the cancellation out cry

Well. some of that is hogwash. I recieved my US35705 Messerschmitt Me 262A-1a ‘Green 1’ of Major Rudolf Sinner, Gruppenkommandeur III./JG 7 in the mail a few days ago and I love it! Very cool.

I hardly think Corgi tosses anything for free - nor should they - but the fact of the matter is TFM is one of their biggest US (and possibly global) retailers - they are even included in the catalog. What other vendor has that priveledge? I buy less from them now than in the past but had I not stumbled across the site I wouldn't collect as I do today so I would expect Corgi to give them some form of input/respect regarding certain releases considering their obvious relationship with TFM. If they had asked TFM - "Would you like to release the P-51B Gentile as an exclusive since you offered the Spit and Thunderbolt?" my guess is TFM would have answered in the affirmative.

Of course TFM requests and pays for their commissions which means they requested and paid for the Gentile Spit and Thunderbolt - Corgi didn't plan to do them apparently - which translates to guaranteed sales as a vendor pays for 100% of the stock on a given commissioned release (a logical assumption IMHO). Since Corgi decided to go fullbore and publish a catalog they are now altering significantly, from many accounts, it seems rather silly that they felt the Gentile P-51B was essential to their expanded offering when it was conceived. Can anyone convince me they always intended to release this particular model prior to the two previous Gentile releases? To me it reeks of opportunism to list what many collectors see as the logical #3 in a "series" as part of a regular release only to later list it as a "reduced" production.

Frankly, I don't care whose moniker is used - Corgi or Corgi Flying Mule Exclusive - but I don't give any company whose bottom line is profit - including the Fortune 500 company I work for - the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the consumer. Either you generate profits or you are finished. If altruism and serving the community was priority 1 then they would work for non-profits and focus on the greater good not the purchasing whims of geeks like me. I am simply making the observation that considering the reductions that seem to be headed our way the Gentile is not a critical release to Corgi and it would have been cool - as a collector - to finish out a series of commissioned releases.

Honestly, I just don't see the alleged subtext. No disrespect, but I feel that your forming a strong opinion based on speculative notions.
It just seems like much ado about nothing.

The handing out production runs comment was, or course, in jest. but....
Corgi's a business and it's not fair for us to expect them to not act like one, and it's certainly not sinister behavior if they do.

Sorry if the thread is confusing. I probably should have restarted it. The official Corgi list is posted at Post 93. You'll notice that much of the first list (provided by a UK retailer) is completely wrong.

Much ado about nothing! Are you insane! This is diecast collecting, Mr. Admin, not something trivial like global warming.

I'm thankful for what they will have and maybe down the road the others will be produced.
