Re: Corgi 1/72 - Hawker Typhoon - R.7752's Front-Wing

One thing that has always bothered me is why did RAF pilots and ground crew wear ties - bloody illogical and impractical if you ask me ...

(Perhaps they wanted to look their best if captured by the enemy? .)

One sheep to rule them all ...

Re: Corgi 1/72 - Hawker Typhoon - R.7752's Front-Wing

Has any plane on this forum been held to such scrutiny? Wow.

You have to admit that, even if everything is correct, Corgi was asking for it with this livery choice. I'll probably buy this one, but I'll be squinting in pain when I do it. There are probably uglier colors schemes but...

Re: Corgi 1/72 - Hawker Typhoon - R.7752's Front-Wing

I urge anyone interested in this plane to read Roland Beaumont's autobiography. He did a lot to iron out the 'bugs' in the 'Tiffie. Anyone who takes off at night, flies into occupied France and attacks a train (at night) and then flies back to England (covered in fog) to land at one of the first FIDO equipped airfield's is a real hero in my book. I am very pleased that Corgi decided to commemorate this event by producing this plane!!

Also, why was the title of this thread altered........ Without my permission!!!

Re: Corgi 1/72 - Hawker Typhoon - R.7752's Front-Wing

The Hawker
Typhoon Mk Ib R7752 PR-G belonged to 609 Squadron Leader Roland “Bee” Beamont DSO (Distinguished Service Order), DFC (Distinguished Flying Cross). 609 squadron downed four FW.190s in one week under his leadership in November 1942. Beaumont was later shot down in 1944 over Germany and became a POW. Beamont would later become chief test pilot of the lightning and TSR.2 programs but he was also a brilliant train buster as well with 25 to his credit picked up from low level sorties over France, Belgium and Holland part of his aircraft R7752 is on display at the Elvington memorial room which depicts his victories painted on a panel.

Information and photos found in the article "609 (West Riding) Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force" on militaryairshows.co.uk

These are supposed to be panels from the
actual aircraft.

I think it's a fair judgment that the colors are incorrect.
