Re: Corgi 1/72 - Hawker Typhoon - R.7752's Front-Wing

What is confusing is that none of the references seem to correlate. Without strong photographic evidence it is always difficult to prove a colour or shade. I am happy enough with the Typhoon and I am sure Corgi based the scheme on the Osprey book.

I haven't read the entire thread, so forgive me if this has already been covered. Doesn't the car door type canopy require, oh, I don't know, a Car Door?
Pastel Camo?

This is a production unit right?

I'm really liking my IXO right about now.

The only thing Corgi missed for the door was the handle. I guess they could have deepened the panel lines for the doors, but that would have meant some kind of retooling to cover it up when they do the bubble top canopy.

Re: Corgi Hawker Typhoon IB (AA36502)

I was so blinded by the yellow in the photo that I posted that I did not even notice that your photo was of the actual plane in question. I would have to say that you are 100% correct.

I have not seen this model up close but as Canucklehead says, does not look that much better than my IXO.

Yes I did, W.M.- Cracking pic' (subject-wise), BUT, it's NOT R.7752.....

It looks like that band varies in width by whatever ground crew paints it.
Plenty of variables on an 'official' directive - fair point.
Without evidence from those on the scene at the time, it looks like either way is accurate since we have photo evidence showing several styles.
Yeah W.M. if ya relate to Typhoons generally........

BUT I'm referring to ONE specific Typhoon.......

R.7752 - Corgi's subject - the one with the "Mile Wide" band (NOT).

They've (unfortunately) got it wrong on this (actual) Mk.1B.

The B & W photo (of that particular a/c) in Post 21 (& the General Discussion/Photo's forum)... show clearly, that it was marked up the way the majority of Typhoons were at that stage - i.e. narrow leading edge-band.

Even your 1st shot, is nowhere NEAR as wide as Corgi's (frightening) effort.
Canucklehead I agree - Thinking about this further, I suspect there is no handle so that they can easily change it to a bubble canopy. I don't think that there is much difference in the panel line.

As far as the yellow goes, who's to say that the stripe wasn't increased after the photo was taken. Unlikely but possible. They did eliminate the wing stripe sometime, so this new edge finish might have been tried on the C/O's ship to see how effective it was (Yes I know I'm stretching it a little here ).

As I have said in the past, and I'll say it again . It would be great if the hound or any other mfg's would make available their research into these schemes somehow. Some sort of feedback mechanisam between us and them would pay off magnificently in the fact that we are in all essence a free research army.

Re: Corgi 1/72 - Hawker Typhoon - R.7752's Front-Wing

Wow this is amazing, how many just love to bash the crap out of as many releases as they can. Based on all that I have read, Corgi did just fine , and I bet they sell a ton of these to the not so picky crowd. I know I will be getting one each of the 1st two releases.

If you dig deep enough and long enough, you could probably find a dozen issues with every release from every company. Why not just enjoy them for what they are. Most of the time you can find a picture or reference that supports the model or the complaint.

HobbyMaster which everyone seems to love, have plenty of issues if you want to nit-pick, but over all from a foot away they look as real as it gets to me and too most collectors.

Here, here Flaps...I'm with you on that one.

As for the door handle for the early Typhoon version, I remember seeing it from a CAD drawing. It is flush mounted. How else would the pilot get in the cockpit?

Has any plane on this forum been held to such scrutiny? Wow.

Isn't nitpicking and showing our superior knowlege over mere mortals why we are in this forum?

Really, seeing the different opinions, pictures, stories, etc. is one of the main reasons I am even involved in this. I love the bantering, even bickering and the wealth of knowlege that our members bring to this hobby.
