Re: B-17 Nine o' Nine

I just checked mine, and yea its a decal. I hope over time it doesn't wear out or fade. That would ruin a great bird. Anyone here make their own decals??

Post Re: B-17 Nine o' Nine

Just got this one -- couldn't resist a great deal on the 'bay. (so far my clearing out the collection isn't going so well... for every two models I sell, I seem to be buying 1.5 )

I like it a lot as I've seen the Collings Foundation 1:1 in the air a few times and toured it once, and I lilke to collect models of preserved warbirds.

The dark shade of green and deep red do make me want to leave the model out in the sun for a week or so to get that bleeched effect you see on the real deal, but I will hold off...

I was a bit suprised to see the nose art was a "sticker" decal and not pad-printed... first Corgi I've seen that has this, or have I just been snoozing?

Nice one PappyB this is one of my personal favourites from the AA range may be you will find the attached link interesting, my wifes parents live just a 15 minute drive from both Duxford & Bassingbourn alas it is some time since Bassingbourn was home to military aircraft http://www.controltowers.co.uk/B/bassingbourn.htm

Re: B-17 Nine o' Nine

Generally, I would say that 'nine O nine' is one of the best of the Corgi litter of B17s although Sentimental Journey remains my personal favourite .

I just bought "Nine O Nine" from ebay and I agree. It has quickly become one of my favorite models. I own Sentimental Journey as well and it's an excellent model, but I really like the contrast of the red bomb group markings on the dark olive drab of 909. The ten flight and ground crew add a lot to the model too.

Re: B-17 Nine o' Nine

909 has been on my list for a while too and today it showed up. Got one at Pete's for $85 shipped. Not too bad. I agree that the colors are good and I like the figures and all but I'm not sure this is my best Fort. My decal on the nose looks a bit messed. Well, ok, it looks about like Tricatus' but the gaps are at least that wide and some of the decal is hanging in no mans land in the gap, though on the plane still. Based on Tri's pics, I don't think I got a lemon, just a pretty regular, average quality one. Also, the exhaust and engines on mine are painted right over where on Belle and Coastal Command they are a nice metallic color. Seems weak. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to add it but it's not up to the Belle or CC quality. Sentimental Journey is on the way next from JP and I'll see what that's like then.

Don't forget the targets are my airfields, Leigh-Mallory, and you're not getting fifty, you're not even getting ten.

Re: B-17 Nine o' Nine

Parsig, what is the JP you refer to? I've been trying to find a Sentimental and they seem tough to locate.

Thanks

Re: B-17 Nine o' Nine

Thanks for the help guys! Perrys now has one less SJ in stock.

I also recently picked up Nine o' Nine. Is it supposed to have the 'A' code in the white triangle on the starboard wing?
