Corgi JU-88 AA36703 WASTED OPORTUNITY?

Is it just me or is there a very special reason for this forthcoming release? I know that we have not yet seen it 'in the flesh' but it seems so similiar to AA36702 that you would wonder why they bother!
There are a myriad number of schemes crying out to be covered not least 'Battle of Britain', or an anti ship version with some new features. Other aircraft that suffered from this 'waste of a mould' marketing include the F-4 Phantom (orange target drone) and the Mosquito (target tug). Your views please!

It's probably just another wasted oppotunity. It's just like all the Ju-52 releases coming out this year, I was really looking forward to the mold but none of the paint schemes interest me. You would like to think they'd do a BoB model of the 88 but I guess from a business standpoint you'd probably want to do the less popular paint schemes first because people simply just don't want to wait

Dunno if I buy that... I mean why not just make them ALL interesting/popular paint schemes I'm a-waiting... which is a big accomplishment for me!

Waiting for now too and I couldn't agree more about the first
3 released. Now you can bet that these will be going for little more that $30 when some time passes and then you may see me get interested.

This summer at TM perhaps. I like the #4 I believe it is with the white squigly line camo. What I really want are these though.

Don't forget the targets are my airfields, Leigh-Mallory, and you're not getting fifty, you're not even getting ten.

I've got to admit that the JU 88 has got me intrigued. But at the current prices I'm not THAT intrigued. I'm with you parsig - I can wait a year and get one hopefully cheaper when everyone is dumping excess stock. I really wonder if Corgi's sales figures are good on these as they thought they'd be.

Hi Shamrock

I've highlighted your quote "Your views please" as my views, like some others, may not follow the expected course.

As an avid F.4 fan since childhood, I've gotta agree about the QF.4 drone, in bright orange - pretty awful.

If I hadn't have seen your first post, I may not have responded, BUT - I had to, when I saw that you'd lumped the Target-Tug Mosquito into the same bracket.

Whilst I don't (generally) collect small stuff - (I've always been far more interested in Bombers & Transports) - I'd put the "Target-Tug" Mosquito, as the top choice of all the 1/72 Mossie's.

As I've been making kits & studying a/c, since the late 1960's, I get VERY, VERY bored of a lot of the colour schemes that are oft' repeated ; 40 + years is a long time to gradually get bored !!!! - so when something exotic like a Silver-Tug, with Yellow/Black undersides comes along, it's Hallelujah time.

Corgi love to vary their schemes & take many brave moves putting out different stuff.

If every company chooses to put out (YET ANOTHER) Bud Anderson P.51 'Old Crow'.....THEN I'll yawn (profusely) & then switch off, & go play guitar or go birdwatching - anything less predictable.

Re: Corgi JU-88 AA36703 WASTED OPORTUNITY?

As far as the Corgi Ju 88 is concerned, I got a desert scheme and a northern clime green, and until a later-war grey scheme comes along, I'm just not going to shell out any more. I'm delighted that Corgi brought out the '88, but then I'm delighted HM brought out the Hellcat, SBD, TBF and MiG-21, and Corgi introduced the Gladiator, Lysander, and Predator line, and GeminiAces the 109F and P-51B, and...well, you get the drift.

Thank you Hornchurch for responding in regard to the TT Mossie being a "waste of a mould." As a proud owner of that model I can attest that it is a real eye-catcher in the collection and is one of my favorite models.

But I agree with you Shamrock, that orange F-4 is an abomination! And I would also add that Bicentennial F-4 as well. Gack!

I totally agree, and to me, AA36703 is't as flash as the 02 version, what a waste indeed!

Re: Corgi JU-88 AA36703 WASTED OPORTUNITY?

Sorry Hornchurch & Black 6 but I only mentioned the Target Tug Mosquito as an afterthought as it was not one I have in my collection of 8 Mosquitoes. I went back and had a look through my old Corgi catalogues and the Tricatus site. You are both correct in saying that it is a fine aircraft. I feel that several versions were still possible in the Mosquito range including the Tzetse 57MM cannon version, and one with 60LB wing mounted rockets. The F-4 was also finished early as the F-4E, 'Wild Weasel', and Luftwaffe versions never appeared.

I have all 4 Swordfish because each of the versions is different enough to warrent a purchase, floatplane, black CC, silver pre-war, and Bismark. The same would said for the Gladiators, Finnish, Sea Gladiator, and the 1940 varient with the back/white undersides. Corgi are to be admired for bringing us such diverse and wonderful aircraft and in fact I named the Swordfish & Catalina as being among the best castings of 2006. With a finite amount of money available to us all it is in my opinion a mistake to 'do to death' a casting that has huge promise with models that are so similar as makes no difference. Phew ! Sorry to be so longwinded!
